Princeton CAP magazine piece Kennedy read was satire

You can read the full Prospect article on Kennedy's site. Its subject is a lawsuit by a female Princeton student who wanted to be admitted to an all-male eating club at the university. As the title suggests, it argues more broadly that elitism isn't a bad thing. The article is written in an arch style that doesn't do much for me, and I don't think it's very good. But there isn't anything especially offensive or even controversial in it.
Dinesh D'Souza was the editor of Prospect at the time, and he confirms that the article, by H. W. Crocker III, now an editor for Regnery Books, was a satire:
The essay may not have been funny, D'Souza acknowledges, but Kennedy read from it as if it had been serious instead of an attempt at humor. "I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them," D'Souza said. "It was a satire."
The bottom line is that if this is the most "offensive" article CAP was responsible for in its decade-plus of existence, the Democrats' whole guilt-by-association effort was much ado about nothing. If being associated, however remotely, with attempts at humor that don't turn out to be very funny is enough to place a public figure beyond the pale, the Democrats had better stay away from Al Franken.

1969 wasn't that long ago -- I'm sure there are numerous Kopechne relatives around.
Will the MSM interview them? Not likely.

'' I think they are up to no good next Wednesday.''.........I'm with you on that. I hope I haven't been reading too many wacky DU conspiracies lately or maybe I've become paranoid. But I don't trust those RATS, either and I despise Harry Reid!......But I think they are delaying to get all the RATS to cough up money to pay off some sleaze(AKA Anita Hill) to make up lies about Alito and invent a scandal! Since they could not lay a glove on him during the hearings. They are desperate to torpedo his confirmation and would do anything. IMHO

The files that Kennedy insisted be subpoenaed A snippet:
That brings us to Wednesday, Jan. 11. That morning, in the Judiciary Committee hearings on the Alito nomination, Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) demanded furiously that the committee chair, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), subpoena my files on this evil organization, CAP. Specter, who had apparently not seen a letter from Kennedy to the same general effect, told him to stop trying to run the committee, but allowed that he would look into the matter. A couple of hours later, a member of Specter's staff phoned me and requested access to the files. I granted it, promptly and cordially, and by nightfall investigators for both Specter and Kennedy were at the Library of Congress, going through the files. They stayed at it, I am told, until 2 a.m. on Jan. 12. That same morning, Chairman Specter told the committee and the world that Judge Alito's name was nowhere to be found in those files -- not even once. Score one for Kirkpatrick.

"I want to see Kennedy's face when they tell him he was played for a fool." Hell, no shock there -- He's been a fool his entire life.

I don't consider him dumb .. just vengeful. And .. he has a staff of willing accomplices. I believe it's Teddy's staff who are members of the "kook" groups like MoveOn and DU. They are feeding him what they want to hear - not what's honest or truthful.
But .. let the dems continue with this deception - they are really the ones being deceived.

I just e-mailed my Senators and urged them to confirm Alito now. Delays for stupid reasons are ridiculous. (besides hasn't O'conner done her duty already, she wants to retire?) I know it's probably no use since I'm stuck with Feinstein and Boxer but I did it anyway.

My brother was killed by Republican policies. He had a substance abuse problem, and had no choice but to survive by crime. One year ago yesterday, he was attempting to secure money from a young woman who could have easily provided the requested amount. The young woman shot and killed my brother Danny....
LOL! Now that's funny. Someone (seriously) should check just to make sure Kennedy didn't have it read into the Congressional Record.

I thought the same thing. Then I learned of this ugly reality, which makes it even worse:

The arrogance is amazing, and yet completely unsurprising.

I heard it too. But I think it was Michael Reagan that pointed it out. Doesn't matter though, I was stunned. Ted Kennedy is an utter disgrace! I don't understand how its possible that this man is allowed to keep serving in the senate!

Man oh man, poor Teddy, he can no longer recognize humor even when it stares at his fat face... his brain waddles in a mushy stupor of booze and women.
