I hope Specter sticks to his guns.
Don't let the Democrats roll you, Arlen!
To: Cboldt; Howlin
They only can if the Chairman of the Committee allows, and that was the concern

i read that Harry had already approached Frist and Frist blew up. Did anybody else seee that? Yeah, but I don't have a link handy. Scheduling is going to be the next little football. I've taken both sides of speculation of this (delay/no delay), so no matter what, I'm already wrong ;-)

He keeps forgetting who the president is. First it was President Ford now it's President Reagan.

I think I'd prefer O'Connor as the swing vote to Kennedy. Kennedy is going to just love this.

This is the first time in a long time that I've taken pride in the fact that Republicans hold a majority of seats in the United States Senate.

Does Spector know who the current president is? lol So far, I've heard him say President Ford and President Reagan when he actually meant President Bush.
To: BigSkyFreeper
Leahy is whining because the dems are not
in the majority and he can't be chairman!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaa.........!!!!!!!!!!
To: syriacus
Specter thinks some Dems will vote for Alito on the floor, because of politics (upcoming elections).

They can insist on 200 hours of debate, doesn't mean they'll stay on topic. The last time we went through this a year or so ago, the Democrats kept yapping about high unemployment figgers, skyrocketing debt, grandma's not getting their medicines, schools in disrepair, and all that other doom-and-gloom gobbledygook.

Roll Call guy said on C-Span right after the hearing ended that there would be a one week delay....until Jan. 24. Was he being presumptious? Specter reportedly saying no delay...vote on Jan. 17. Which is it?

Unless something unusual happens, at best President Bush will get one more nominee (and I strongly hope he does).
As for the next president, he (or she) will only lock up a solid conservative majority if he nominates conservative individuals. At the moment, none of the leading contenders from either party is likely to do so.

Did Leaky get his way? Delay til when?? Not yet
Arlen says he sees no extraordinary reasons why the vote should be delayed
Reporter asks Arlen what's the big deal about not waiting till Thursday to vote instead of Tuesday
Arlen says because the debate in the Senate could start on Wed.

Arlen lost all the respect he gained during the showdown with blubbermouth.

Yes, because in the next week they'll stumble upon the magical bullet to destroy Alito that has escaped them in the months preceding this vote.

but it is my understanding that in a real fillibuster, only the GOP would have to keep all their members on the floor.

Specter reportedly saying no delay...vote on Jan. 17. Which is it?I listened carefully to Specter and I still do not know the answer to that question. Does anyone?
