CINCINNATI -- Carson Palmer's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday.
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback tore ligaments in his left knee when he was hit by Pittsburgh's Kimo von Oelhoffen on his first pass during the Steelers' 31-17 playoff victory Sunday.

You hate to hear things like this. Especially when this guy was just getting "warmed up", so to speak. Prayers up for a speedy and full recovery.
Go Pats!

They can use (or could have used) cadaver parts for ligaments and other things.
Recovery is going to be tough, but he could be back.
Such a shame, he was such a nice fit for the area and team.

Wonder what the Bengals will do with his contract?

He had a prior knee injury and I wondered why he wasn't wearing some kind of protective knee gear before this happened.
They make braces for around the knee that would have prevented this tackle from causing this damage I believe.
I agree with you, prayers for he and his family.
That area loves him, he's a family values kind of guy.

The Bengals are well invested in Palmer and will wait this one out.
He threw 32 or 33 TDs (I forget which) and he's probably worth it to them. He's the first decent QB they've had down there since Esiason.....

I'd sure like to think along the lines that he still "is" a nice fit for the area and team. Tough comebacks (miracles?) happen all the time. Take Teddy Bruschi for example. Let's help Carson Palmer keep the faith.
Cheers!

My understanding is that he was wearing a brace at the time of the injury. Obviously it didn't help too much but you've gotta wonder if they have to make some concessions between protection and mobility when choosing the right one.

That hit was nasty despite the gentleman Palmer was about it.
The guy fell past Palmer, came back and pulled Palmer's knees in sideways. He didn't fall toward Carson, he went after him no matter what they want to say IMO.

If the damage is as extensive as the surgeon says, this poor guy's knee basically EXPLODED.
And RedCell, he WAS playing with a brace during that game, IIRC....
To: RedCell
That's terrible. Hopefully he can come back from it. He has a nice career ahead of him.

It was polyurethane most likely and he needed a metal exoskeleton brace.

This is too soon to get our knickers in a twist.
I hate the Bengals but I'll pray for one of the greatest QB's the team has ever had.
(I hate the Steelers more)
Indianapolis all the way, baby!

To: RedCell
You Know, I watched the game and the hit, and it didn't look all that serious.... almost like Dale Ernhardt's accident.

I've torn an ACL and they do explode. They make a sound like a baseball bat snapping to be exact. The pain was so intense (I guess) that I passed out and was caught on the way down by someone else.
Took me over 18 months to again play competitive sports.

Yep, the guy fell behind Palmer, saw Carson, twisted in order to reach for Carson and then made a very dangerous tackle on the knees.
He was to the side of Carson and should have figured the knees don't bend sideways.
