Day 4: Hearing Resumes
This morning, Senators will question Judge Alito during a third round. They will then go into a closed session, to review the FBI background investigation on the Supreme Court nominee. Outside witnesses may be called to testify this afternoon, as well as the American Bar Association, to discuss its recommendations.

During WWII, my Italian grandparents regularly had their house searched (I wonder if it was without a warrant!). This was while their son, my uncle, was on a ship in the South Pacific with the navy...
When I was a kid, I used to collect coins. My grandmother told me she used to have a few gold coins, but thanks to FDR, they were "confiscated" during one of the searches.
Does anyone knwo how many of these judges are active vs. retired?
That was true for much of the Detroit area. I remember crying as a little girl when my Mother told me some of the things that had happened to her parents. My great genetic fortune is that they were never embittered; they believed more in the good.
Durbin wanted to associate with Leahy's remarks, as did Feingold. The object is to taint the testimony of at least the sitting Judges as an improper activity for a judge.
The DEMs may elevate their objection (which has been voiced since this set of witnesses has been known), since they aren't getting traction on CAP, Vanguard, Roe or Rybar.

The scary proposition is that many of these Dems constitute the OLD Guard. I can't even fathom what socialist loonies are being prepped for future service.
just associate
They're trying to infer to America that Alito may favor any of these judges if they appear in front of the Supreme Court.
At least he could sing!

We are witnessing an intellectually honest juggernaut. 100% unanimous agreement when Alito decided with two Dem appointed judges. Won't hear about that in the MSM.
Lindsey is making that point now.
Not in those words, but he declined to question them, saying that the judges' cases might have come before the SC, that....You can fill in the dots of his snide remark which in effect said that the judges were so complimentary because they would want their decisions in the lower federal court verified by the SC....w/Alito sitting.
He is questioning the propriety of it at all, and means, I think, to aim his objection to the nomination of Alito, and to the conduct of the GOP that arranged this testimony.
ilovew is right. Alito is following the law, he is not going to be a conservative activist. So if there are others who are politically liberal but are not judicial activists who say that Alito decides carefully and fairly why fall into the same self torture that the Dems put themselves through when we come up with something that benefits us and them?
This isn't a compromise candidate -- this is someone who is not week kneed like Anthony Kennedy or David Souter. Face it, they had no background and no exposure to Washington. Alito isn't from DC, but he's been doing this now for 15 years. No surprises.
Furthermore, it's Roberts who really drives how the questions will be framed and he's even showing signs that he's creating compelling cases for Kennedy to give up the swing and come back.
Then Durbin followed suit.
my hub said too bad specter's cojones aren't big enough to haul in Sandra O'Connor herself or any other sitting Sup Ct justice to speak on Alito's behalf. the dems would STROKE OUT.
```They're trying to infer to America that Alito may favor any of these judges if they appear in front of the Supreme Court.
````
SOBs.
they will smear anybody to win
Judges don't give a flip if a fellow judge agrees with them if the judge is a great jurist.
You are too paranoid if you are freaking out just because a couple liberal judges like this guy.
That doesn't mean they agree with him.
