This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.

Hey! I'm surprised. I flipped over to CNN and Blitzer, with Jeff Greenfield and Jeff Tobin are blathering away, not tuned in to the "live" questioning by Leahy. Blitzer is quoting what Roberts said on Roe, that it was settled law. Amazing isn't it? CNN not covering Leahy's moments of "glory". I wonder why.

Toobin says there are judges out there, unlike Alito, who look for any excuse to rule against Rove v Wade. Toobin says Alito does not look like that kind of judge. He adds, Schumer seems a little deflated by what's happened so far in the hearings.

All in all, the CNN "circus of three" seem deflated themselves.

Remember Kennedy during the Ashcroft hearings. He stated that he was afraid tht because Ashcroft was religious he wouldn't be able to perform his job as Attorney General.

In 1960 some people said the same thing about his brother Jack -- implying that a Roman Catholic President would be controlled by the Pope!

I'm no fan of any of the Kennedys, but I think Jack would be horrified by much of what comes out of Ted's mouth.

Brit worries me about that. I think Alito will get out of committee despite the demo gang but heard a Repub guest commentator seem rather negative that Alito will get all of the Repub votes in Senate but might pick up a couple of dem votes. I'm trying to figure out which RINOs would vote nay on him.

Just heard some left announcer on WABC radio commenting that the dems don't let Alito get a word in edgewise.

Begala, Carville and Couric said the same thing this morning. They were cracking especially hard on Biden. Then Couric asked if Howard Dean is the right man to pull that Party together and Carville said that Dean is building the grass roots. Well, I guess -- if by "grass" he means marijuana!
