The Patriots Guild-What do you love about freedom?
anyone who shows up...

Posted on 01/08/2006 7:04:46 PM PST by Diva Betsy Ross

Patriots Guild

No one knows what the outcome of World War II would have been if more than 18 million women hadn't worked in home-front defense industries to free men for overseas battlefields and to keep the nation running, and no one can say what would happen in this war on terror, if it were not for the countless Contractors, who put their lives on the line to re-build Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as the millions of civilians who support the war effort from home.

***

I would like to introduce you to the Patriots Guild- a place where like minded can meet to share information about their pursuits in supporting the war effort. We are mindful that there are many people to thank, and to keep in our thoughts and prayers- our allies, contractors, Merchant Marines, troops, veterans and their families all need to feel loved. This is a huge effort, isn't it?

So stop by with a joke, a recipe, a song ,or a plan- and lets figure out a way to get our message out to the world.... WE LOVE OUR FREEDOM!

***

SO without further ado- I offer this ice breaker...... what is your favorite thing about having freedom? (keep it family friendly please!) I enjoy fresh coffee from Dunkin Donuts, myself... I just drive downtown and BINGO- Freedom...... I wonder if DD ever considered shipping coffee to our good guys in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think I will call them and ask.... How about you, what do you love about your freedom?

Here are two excellant tributes to America and to the young men and women who stand guard on the Front Lines of Freedom.

"What do you love about Freedom?"

Mainly I like the "Freedom from Fear" and the "Freedom to Travel" parts of Freedom. I can pretty much go about my day, free and unincumbered, do what I want, go where I want, vacation where I want, make a living, raise a family, etc. without the fear that I'll be questioned or stopped while I'm on my way.

Thanks for adding me to your list, BTW! :)

What a refreshing post, Diva. I love that at this time when we need a strong President the most, we have George Bush. I cringe to think where this country would be if the other side had been in the White House on September 11th, 2001.

Thanks to all our Patriots. Let Freedom Ring!

I can not wait until next Friday for wear red day. Ms. Billie- made me a dress. I am nominating her for angel of the week.

Too many angels, too much competition. :) You are welcome for the dress - they're too much fun to make not to share with others, and a bit of a challenge finding just red ones - or those I can *make* red!

Perhaps a recipe for Garlic Mashed potatoes would be helpful:

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

2 pounds potatoes (like russet or Yukon gold)
5 small cloves garlic, peeled
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

Peel and cut the potatoes into equal-sized chunks and bring them to a boil in lightly salted water. Peel the garlic and smash them with the side of a chef's knife or the bottom of a small pan.

Melt the butter in a medium hot saute pan and slowly cook the garlic until it starts to turn a light golden color. When it's soft most of the way through, add the heavy cream and milk and turn the heat up so it starts to simmer. (Watch the cream because it'll come to a boil very quickly!)

Adjust the heat so it reduces to about 1- 1 1/3 cups of liquid. Drain the spuds when they're done and then mash them right in the pan with a potato masher. Add the reduced garlic cream, season with salt and pepper to taste and they're ready to serve!

Hint: Make sure the milk and cream reduces or you'll end up with too much liquid.

Serves 4-6
