Earth Liberation Front claims no leaders or spokespeople
When three buildings and four chairlifts on Vail Mountain went up in flames in October, 1998, the Earth Liberation Front, an underground environmental movement, proudly took credit for the arson.
The Earth Liberation Front claims to be an underground movement with no leadership, membership or spokespeople...
Anyone who commits an act of ecoterrorism or sabotage in the name of the environment is welcome to do it under the front's name...
Call yourself an "elf" and you're part of the elite, invisible group.
Last month, Chelsea D. Gerlach of Portland Ore. and William C. Rodgers of Prescott, Ariz. were named as suspects in the fire.
Rodgers committed suicide in his jail cell Dec. 22, and Gerlach is being held on other charges ...
In addition to taking credit for the arson, the Earth Liberation Front went as far as to issue a few threats to Vail Resorts and the general public.
"This action is just a warning," the front said in an e-mail ...just after the arson. "
The FBI's James Jarboe, domestic terrorism section chief, said the Earth Liberation Front, in connection with the Animal Liberation Front, has committed more than 600 crimes in the country since 1996...
"In recent years...the level of activity undertaken by animal rights and environmental extremists has grown in intensity and scope,"...
Vlasak, who speaks for ALF ...
Arson the best motivator?
Vlasak ...acknowledged ELF and ALF are ideologically connected ...
Hitting Vail Resort's wallet was a worthy cause in his eyes.
ELF's means and methods have the government worried that "special interest" terrorism from leaderless groups will ring in a new wave of violence.
"It is clear that terrorism will continue to plague societies into the 21st century," the FBI said.

Vlasak Openly Advocates Assassination
"On October 12, an Australian TV show aired a program on the use of animals in research,..."
"Our old friend Jerry Vlasak, MD, surgeon and, in my opinion, incendiary advocate and apologist for Animal Rights violence, had this to say:"
PCRM Doctor Endorses Murder -- On Tape!
"In May, when we first broke the news that long-time Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) spokesman Dr. Jerry Vlasak openly endorsed murdering other doctors at an animal-rights convention, we expected some skeptics to give Vlasak the benefit of the doubt. Not any more. "
"Yesterday a stunning piece of audio surfaced on two Internet blogs ...listen to Jerry Vlasak at the "Animal Rights 2003" convention as a PCRM representative. (Note: a transcript of Vlasak's comments as posted by blogger Brian O'Connor can be found below.)"

sounds about right
Problem was; The rancher had retired and was only maintaining a small herd for pets. They were European red deer, a non-native species that, according to California law, cannot be allowed into the wild. I never heard the outcome but if they couldn't be caught and returned to his ranch, they were going to have to be hunted down and killed.
Lotta dang good the ecofreaks did them.
In California,I'll wager that these deer became, soon after gaining their "right to freedom",tasty snacks for some California mountain lions.
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood ....
Dr. Jerry Vlasak is a physician with an odd interpretation of the Hippocratic Oaths dictum that doctors should do no harm.
As a representative of the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), Vlasak told the Animal Rights 2003 convention that he would endorse the murder of physicians whose research work requires the use of lab rats and other animals.
I dont think youd have to kill -- assassinate -- too many vivisectors, Vlasak said, before you would see a marked decrease in the amount of vivisection going on.
When one woman in the audience disagreed, saying that Vlasaks approach was no different from that of abortion-clinic bombers, Vlasak was undeterred.
Absolutely, he countered. I think they had a great strategy going.

Absolutely, he countered. I think they [the abortion-clinic bombers] had a great strategy going.
And we've all seen how effective they were at bringing abortion to a screeching halt.
Vlasic...yeah...he makes real good pickles too.

When the FBI was investigating ELF connections at CU-Boulder, one of my classmates made noises about how the FBI was the scariest organization ever. She was a devotee of Ward Churchill, of course, which makes me wonder just how inbred Left activism is.
