Their was a ranch near here that was raising deer for venison. A couple of years ago either ALF or ELF cut the back fence of his property and let the deer escape into the wild.

Problem was; The rancher had retired and was only maintaining a small herd for pets. They were European red deer, a non-native species that, according to California law, cannot be allowed into the wild. I never heard the outcome but if they couldn't be caught and returned to his ranch, they were going to have to be hunted down and killed.

Lotta dang good the ecofreaks did them.

In California,I'll wager that these deer became,soon after gaining their "right to freedom",tasty snacks for some California mountain lions.
