Good evening Kathy. Warmer weather is on the way.
Friday, January 6, 2006
Well, our brief round of "cold" temperatures is about over. We'll see highs
back up above freezing for the weekend. Try and
enjoy it, anyway.

Mr Jeff Beck!He truely was a fusion master
Shame he didnt recieve fame for the work he did
That guy busted a groove ;)
Jeff Beck didn't exactly receive obscurity for what he did, either: his first Jeff Beck Group didn't sell too many copies of their two albums (you can probably blame Mickie Most's lame production for that, outside the live "Blues Deluxe"), but when they toured the U.S. (which was practically every other month during their brief life) they usually blew the likes of the Grateful Dead offstage (which, even in 1968, was damn near impossible considering the chauvinism of the Grateful Dead's audience even then).
Blow By Blow and Wired were best-selling albums, deservedly. (Who would have thought in 1975-77 that Jeff Beck, of all people, would show the usually smugger-than-thou/more-self-congratulatory-than-thou fusion crowd how it should have been done, never mind making three fusion-dominant albums which didn't leave the melody or the taste behind when the flights of fancy were time to fly? I wouldn't trade one cut of any of those three Beck exercises for the entire fusion catalogue otherwise.) And it wasn't exactly a disgrace to cop himself a top twenty hit with that nice, bluesy cover of "People Get Ready" in a reunion with Rod Stewart in 1985.
Beck is often thought not to have gotten fame for his work because, for the most part, since the dissolution of his second Jeff Beck Group (one good album, one turkey) and of Beck, Bogert, and Appice (what controlled substances possessed him?), he works almost strictly when he feels like it and when he thinks he has something different to work with. (Considering his customary philosophy of musicmaking and composition---in a word, he himself says he can't think or write music unless he hears a percussionist or a rhythm part that "kicks me right up the ass"---it's no surprise that a five year layoff for Jeff Beck is anyone else's career end. On the other hand, it took plain cojones to cut that ripsnort/zip-gun Gene Vincent-Cliff Gallup tribute album, Crazy Legs.) If a man can survive in such a treacherous business for four decades on his own terms entirely, there's something to be said for that.
Classic Beck moment: his induction as a Yardbird into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: I suppose I should say thank you to the guys for making this possible, but they fired me---so f@ck 'em!

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT: Showing support for and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military, the family members of the military and all of their supporters, everywhere. Honoring those who have served before. |
Encore Presentation |
Artist/s: Perez Prado |
Song Title: Voodoo Suite |
Translation: Voodoo Suite |
General Theme: ( This file is over 21 Meg. ) This was my introduction to Latin rhythms. I heard it in the mid to late 50s while I was in junior high school. I never imagined back then that I would one day be able to find it on CD 40 years later. It is a collection and mixture of Latin and American music. By the time I got to college the rumor was that you could ply a young lady with fine wine, play this side of the album and get ready for a wild night. I never did find out if that was true because I was such a good boy. Yes, this is the same Perez Prado of "Patricia" fame. He is a percussionist/conga player besides being an orchestra leader. He cut "Patricia" just to get into the mainstream and make money. He wasn't making much money in Latin Jazz. Your media player will misinterpret the actual playing time. Don't worry about it. It will play in its entirety. |
Side Note: I won't be translating entire songs. I simply don't have the time. |

Would you believe, white? It was a spec home, we just fell into it.
Let's see, color...? Pale green and purple in the guest bath. They have new shower hooks that are sorta thick wire bent like an 'S', with a decorative button at the end to hold the curtain on. We got a set that had a delicate white and purple flower for a button, and then bought the rest of the bathroom stuff (towels, rugs, soap dispenser, etc.) to match.
Master bath is pale green and accents. Piper's Mom will be shocked that there's no blue in the house!
