US PRO-LIFE LEADER SEES ANTI-CATHOLIC STRATEGY IN SUPREME COURT FIGHT
EWTN ^ | 6 January 2006

Posted on 01/05/2006 3:58:41 PM PST by Aussie Dasher

Washington, Jan. 04 (CWNews.com) - An American pro-life leader has charged that liberal politicians are engaging in "Catholic-bashing" in their opposition to Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.

Father Thomas Euteneuer, the president of Human Life International, denounced "the unrelenting campaign waged by many Senate Democrats, some of whom claim to be Catholics themselves, against Catholic judicial nominees." Father Euteneuer charged that groups such as People for the American Way, Moveon.org, and the Alliance for Justice have adopted a strategy of attacking the Catholic faith as a means of rousing opposition to the Supreme Court appointment. This strategy, he said, "is disgraceful at best and at worst is a blatant form of religious bigotry reminiscent of a less civil period of history."

The liberal strategy could backfire, Father Euteneuer continued, insofar as it will "continue to alienate Roman Catholics who are increasingly frustrated over attacks on those beliefs they hold most dear." He concluded: "It is in the best interest of all Americans that the Democrat Party stops its relentless attacks on Roman Catholic judicial nominees."

Isn't this the same strategy that was once used against the Kennedys?

Wonder what Lard Ass thinks about that!

This is a case of Catholic Liberal Pro Abortion Politicians that are aiding & abetting the Anti Catholic Strategy in the Supreme Court Battle Against Judge Samuel Alito. Look no further than the great Catholic Stalworths as Senators Kennedy, Kerry, Biden, Leahy, Mikulski, Durbin, etc. The problem is not just anti Catholic Bias but internal Catholic Bias that supports a cultural of Abortion. This is Catholics destroying Catholics who are not subservient to their pro abortion culture.

Just wait until the Senatorial Election in Pennsylvania, Robert Casey, Jr. based on his political desire to get ahead in the Democratic Senatorial Culture will be converted to the Pro Abortion Culture.

Any Catholic Politician in the Democratic Party in Washington must be Pro Abortion!!!!

Not anti-catholic, more like anti- pro-life.

It's funny - there was no litmus test when Ginsburg and Breyer were nominated. Everyone knew they were pro-choice but the GOP didn't threaten fillibusters. Orin Hatch knew - as a constitional scholar - that the President has the right to appoint qualified people who share his views - the Senate is only tasked with the ability to provide advice and consent.

But the liberal press conveniently ignores this double-standard when it comes to the litmus test for Bush appointees. If they are pro-life, it's okay to filibuster.

FYI - Drudge is reporting the Democrats will NOT filibuster, but will delay the vote at least one more week:

Why?

He voted against upholding New Jersey's Partial Birth Abortion Ban
and ruled New Jersey taxpayers had to pay Planned Parenthood
$500,000 for their costs in fighting the PBA ban.

This is pro-life?

And don't give me the lame excuse he had to follow precedent!

Catholic-bashing is the favorite game among the intellectually challenged and Catholic-haters and by that, I don't mean just Liberals. Nothing like attacks, and insults, when it comes to discuss the merits of an individual.

That's right. Anti-Catholicism is one of the last acceptable forms of intolerance in this country.

I wish that George Bush could pull off something like this in the last few weeks of his second term:

Midnight Judges

Judicial appointments made by John Adams just before the end of his presidential term in 1801. The Federalist-controlled Congress passed the Judiciary Act of 1801, which created sixteen federal judgeships. Adams appointed Federalists who opposed the Democratic-Republican principles of his successor, Thomas Jefferson. Many of the papers were signed just before midnight as a gesture of antagonism toward Jefferson, who called the men "midnight judges." Jefferson did not want to recognize the appointments, eventually leading to the repeal of the Judiciary Act of 1801 and the landmark Marbury v. Madison, case.

By the end of 2008, a couple more Supremes will have kicked off. I would love to see Bush replace them "at midnight" with all prolife Catholic judges.

The liberal socialist antilife "progressives" would be jumping off rooftops like it was 1929.

Politicians must get the message that Christians mean business.

Pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-prayer, and anti-creche positions are especially offensive, and indicate a politician is aligned with the forces of Christian-hating.

Politicans must be reminded they will not get the votes of Christians unless they actively get into the fray, and vociferously oppose Christian-hating, anywhere and everywhere Christian-hating surfaces.

A politican holding the listed positions labels him/herself as a Christian-hater, and cannot be seriously considered for public office at any level.

Politicians must immediately take a stand against the ACLU----and any other group---which terrorizes Christians, whether through the legal system, or elsewhere, wherever Christian-hating surfaces.

Politicians will get the message that Christians mean business.

Republicans Can't Win Without Christian Conservatives / major study by the Pew Forum

Americans who regularly attend worship services and hold traditional Christian religious views increasingly vote Republican, while those who are less connected to religious institutions and more secular in their outlook tend to vote Democratic, according to a major study by the Pew Forum. Some of the conclusions of this report were already evident in 2004 exit polling data.

For example, voters who attend church more than once a week (16 percent of all voters) chose Bush over Kerry by a margin of 64 – 35 percent.

Likewise, those who attend Christian denominational Churches on a weekly basis (26 percent of voters) supported the President by a 58 – 41 percent margin. Also very telling, those who never attend Church (15 percent of voters) overwhelmingly supported Kerry 62 – 36 percent.

The study further found that traditionalist elements within each religion tended to vote Republican, while modernist groups within the religions trended towards the Democrats. A multiple regression analysis of exit poll and public opinion survey data from 2000 and 2004 enabled the Pew Research Center to assign a relative weight to various demographic markers.

Interestingly, church attendance was tied with race as the most significant factor. But even that number is deceiving; in that race is only an important factor due to the high level of support the Democrats receive from black voters.

These trends represent a major shift over the past forty-five years. White Christian Evangelicals in 1960 favored Democrats by a two-to-one margin; now they are Republican by a 56 – 27 percent margin. Seventy-eight percent of them voted for President Bush in 2004.

In 1960, 71 percent of Catholics were Democrats and now Democrats have only a slight edge among Catholics (44 – 41 percent) and Catholics voted for President Bush (52 – 47 percent) in 2004. These trends have also brought an increased acceptance of religion in the public square. While Americans do tend to favor the separation of church and state, 70 percent of voters want their President to have strong Christian religious beliefs.

Likewise, the study reveals that 52 percent of Americans believe that Christian churches should express political views. Surprisingly, support for political involvement of churches is strongest among younger voters age 18 to 29 (59 percent).

Nothing "lame" about it. Appeals court judges ARE bound by precedent. A SCOTUS judge is not.
