TALLLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida Supreme Court has struck down the state's school voucher system that paid for some students to attend private schools.
Are these the same traitors who attempted to hand Al Gore the election through selective recounts which the Supreme Court had to stop?

Sure. That's fine with me. Still, everyone pays property taxes, one way or another. Landlords include property taxes when calculating what to charge for rent.
As far as I know, the only folks who don't pay property taxes is churches, on church-owned property. I'd like to see that exemption disappear.
I told people years ago that the testing process (FCAT, FL Writes) in FL would eventually lead to "teaching the tests" and that's exactly what has happened.........

Well, that sure means that paying money to Church-run schools is unconstitutional in Florida. They'll have to amend the constitution to change that.
I'm not sure about secular public schools.
Last thing we need to do is sales taxes, it's the absolute last thing we need to do. Sales taxes are bad enough as it is, and yet the idiots in one of our suburbs (who already have an 8.5% sales tax) are contemplating breaking off and forming their own school system, where they'd have an even higher sales tax.
The solution to education is the get what you pay for solution, make it all private, there will be varying levels of education, and for students who really are disadvantaged but who could cut it in the better schools, have some sort of scholarship fund set up. I know that alot of our private schools around here have scholarships, and they ain't all for football.
My daughter's school has scholarships available for families that can't afford the tuition.
With government money comes government control. Sure as the day follows the dawn.

Not entirely true. THe ruling was that ID was creationism in disguise and could not be taught in science class because it was not science. However, there is no problem with it being taught in a philosophy or religion class.
This is the proof the 'elite' in Florida do not want children to be educated. They want them to remain uneducated and dependent.
2000 election redux.
If judicial elections are every four years in Florida, then how come these rogue judges have not been voted out yet? There have been two elections since 2000, surely a judicial election has come and gone since then.
If citizens are too lazy to research who they are voting for, then I am limited in my sympathy for them. Floridians get to vote for judges every four years- in my state, it is every 15 years. They have the ability to check the judiciary if only they will use it.
I agree with you. I find it interesting that so many conservatives, who would otherwise abhor government subsidies for "personal decisions", endorse it in this case.

Actually, I'll bet our reasons are the same. In my opinion, government exemptions of taxes on churches is an interference in that church.
Churches should not take any favors from the government. Only that way can they remain independent. The non-profit exemption churches take from the Feds limits their ability to speak out politically. If they give that exemption up, they can speak as they wish.

And that was a good thing. Because then we knew that Johnny was actually learning something and not suffering through some liberal administrator's idea of a curriculum.
Plus, it confirmed that the 'F' schools really were dungheaps. Too bad now that the Florida version of the Supremes have struck this down, these poor kids will remain trapped in schools that don't teach.
Although..... hmmmmm... maybe now would be a good time to try to ram through a provision that any kid can go to any school they want and the systems have to pick up the tab.
Yeah, there would be a "honey moon" and then the interference and regulations would start. It's not a fear . It's a fact. Look what happens to anything the government gets involved in.
Then the people or the legistlature should move to revoke the amendment, by referendum if neccessary. The Court ruled correctly, if this is the case.
I agree with teaching to the tests. This is material that the kids need to learn. If a teacher objects to teaching what the students need to learn, then that teacher needs to go. I've never understood resistance to teaching basic math and reading (i.e. basic literacy). There is a lot of secondary material that is nice to have, but should not be a priority. If the kids aren't learning to read and write, why should time be made for music, art and sports? Fundamentals come first.

Here in Okaloosa county, any student can go to any school in the county, as long as the parents provide the transportation......

It's not. The court has ruled correctly, based on the Florida Constitution. If folks want that changed, then they'll have to amend the consitution.
I don't understand why people don't understand this. The court cannot rule against what the Constitution says, and it's very, very plain in this case.
So, it's time for a campaign to amend the constitution. If they can muster the support, it will happen. If they cannot, it won't.
