I was sound asleep when the phone rang at midnight. It was my sister calling from out-of-state.
"Turn on the TV, turn on the TV", bye," she yelled.
I thought it was morning already, LOL, and was thinking groggily about turning the coffee pot on.
When the screen came in focus, so did my brain. I woke up in a hurry. Here I am, wide awake, watching the TV and freeping, sharing the joy with fellow freepers....and celebrating with a great cup of hot coffee.
"Praise God from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost"

What a great story to start out the new year! Praise God.

Jeez. What bad timing. I just got home from a long holiday trip, read the good news here, and then immediately read that it was wrong. How could this positive, wrong story have been reported for so long????? So sad, especially for the families.
To: Pimpmygop
Shame on CNN for breaking news, reporting all were alive.
I am just watching the news conference now on CNN International and at the start the press was demanding: "WHO WHO WHO told the families they were alive... WHO WHO WHO???"
And the company man made it clear it was not us, so it must have been the press misreporting again. And then the press immediately stopped demanding "WHO WHO WHO???" and changed the subject to "how are the families doing?"
It's another F-Up by the Left press.

Dark as the Dungeon
An old bluegrass tune that's on a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album "Will The Circle Be Unbroken".
Come and listen, young fellers, so young and so fine
And seek not your fortune in the dark dreary mines
It will form as a habit and seep in your soul
'Til the stream of your blood runs as black as the coal
Where it's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew
Where the dangers are double and the pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines
There's many a man who I've known in my day
Who lived just to labor his whole life away
Like a fiend with his dope or a drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mines
Well I hope when I'm gone and the ages shall roll
My body will blacken and turn into coal
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home
And pity the miner that's digging my bones

It's so weird that the CEO is a Hatfield and the lone survivor is a McCoy.
Such are the things folk lore is made up of.

I sympathize with the West Virginia families who lost their sons, fathers, and brothers in the mining accident.
Having lost family recently, and with a couple more not expected to live through the year, I understand the grief involved.
However, I do not understand the reaction of some FReepers to this story. When it was first reported that most of the miners had
survived, FReepers praised God repeatedly for a miracle. In fact, the first couple hundred posts are filled with references to an
interventionist deity who was being given credit for saving lives.
When it was learned that these miners had in fact tragically lost their lives, God was nowhere to be found for receiving blame for
either acts of commission (killing them) or omission (failing to save them). If the latter, was he too busy intervening in the
Orange Bowl on behalf of Penn State?
An interventionist deity is responsible for his actions or lack thereof.
I contend that it was, per the laws of Nature's God, time for these men's lives to end. There was neither divine intervention nor avoidance.
These should be respected and remembered for who they were and their contributions in this life.

Just turned on the TV.
Went to bed last night after the jubilation.
Heard Rick Leventhal on FoxNews and thought he misspoke that the 12 were dead.
A sad reversal of news.

Before I read any posts, I'm going to mention three things:
The Media is not assuming any responsibility for mis-information, verifying sources or not citing official reports
Folks at the church said the Governor came to them and delivered the news
The Media is looking for blood; it will, of course, be everyone's fault but their own
