Mormon missionary shot and killed in Chesapeake, Virginia
The Virginian Pilot ^ | 1/2/2005 | Jim Washington

Posted on 01/02/2006 7:39:23 PM PST by gregwest

CHESAPEAKE - A 21-year-old Mormon missionary died Monday night after he and his partner were shot while going door-to-door in the Deep Creek area.

The other missionary, age 19, was in serious condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Monday night, Chesapeake police said.

Police did not release the victims’ identities.

According to police the two missionaries were walking in the 2600 block of Elkhart Street off George Washington Highway about 6 p.m. when they were approached by another man. The man shot them both and fled on foot.

One of the victims ran to The Charity House, a nearby nursing home, to seek help.

Police described the suspect as a black male, about 5’10’’ wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans. He was last seen heading toward Janice Lynn Court, which backs up to Elkhart.

The two missionaries had bicycles, but were not riding them at the time.

A group from the Mormon church, known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, waited in the consultation room at the Norfolk General emergency room Monday night. They declined to comment.

According to the church’s official web site there are more than 60,000 Mormon missionaries, mostly young men and women who volunteer to spread the church’s message for one and a half to two years all over the world, at their own expense.

There are apartment buildings at the end of Elkhart Street, and some residents could not leave or return to their homes for a time Monday night.

Police, working in a moderate rain, had the street blocked off a short way off George Washington Highway.

“This is close to home,’’ said resident Bobby Gatling. He has lived on the block for two years. “Nothing like this has ever happened here before.’’

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Reach Jim Washington at (757) 446-2536 or jim.washington@pilot online.com.

HOLY COW, NOW YOU ADMIT THAT THE BIBLE IS NOT TRANSLATED CORRECTLY IN ALL CASES.

If you cannot trust all the translations, how can you trust that all the edits of the original texts are correct? Are you certain that the Bishops in Rome didn't "correct" things to suit the local political situation? Were you there?

Too bad you don't believe His modern day revelations - you would be pleasantly surprised at the wonderful nature of God, The Savior and the Holy Ghost.

I'm plenty delighted with God already.

Of course, your religion does not allow you to receive these revelations so you shut yourself off from God.

Oh yeah ... where should I start ... Buddha, ... Mohammed, ... Sung Yung Moon, ... Joseph Smith, ...

Have you seen the plates ?

Has anyone else ever seen the plates ... other than a handful of Mormons ?

And of that set which claim to have seen the plates ... could any of them, save Joseph, ... translate what was (or wasn't) on the plates ?

Looks to me like all Mormon belief hinges solely on Joseph Smith.

Hope he was right (and not pulling one of the biggest cons in history) ... or a lot of people have been suckered into a false system of beliefs.

There is a lot more evidence (of every sort) for the continuous integrity of the Bible ... than for writings which are based on your plates ... which less than a dozen ever claimed to have seen ... and which noone, except Joseph, ever claimed to have read.

Nope, there is personal revelation to each member. You know, like was promised in James?

It's too bad Joseph Smith had to die for his sins and crimes of polygamy and destroying a printing press. He was not exactly an innocent martyr.

It is also too bad that Jesus apparently did not die on the cross to atone for all your sins - but only to give you eternal life and NOT exaltation, that his sacrifice did not grant you the gift of dwelling in the presence of God (whom you call Father-in-Heaven.) It's too bad also that you will recieve exaltation from your own works (temple attendance, tithing, word of wisdom, meeting attendance, ward teaching, babtism, fast offerings, family home evening etc. etc. - which the Bible calls filthy rags.

Read the Book of James and pray for wisdom.

I've read the book of James ... and I've prayed for God's wisdom regarding the question of truth in the Book of Mormon.

The first thing God showed me upon (just randomly) opening the book (of Mormon) were these passages ...
Mormon 8:[12] And whoso receiveth this record, and shall not condemn it because of the imperfections which are in it, the same shall know of greater things than these. Behold, I am Moroni; and were it possible, I would make all things known unto you.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Mormon 9:[31] Condemn me not because of mine imperfection, neither my father, because of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him;
but rather give thanks unto God that he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been.

[32] And now, behold, we have written this record according to our knowledge, in the characters which are called among us the reformed Egyptian, being handed down and altered by us, according to our manner of speech.

[33] And if our plates had been sufficiently large we should have written in Hebrew; but the Hebrew hath been altered by us also; and if we could have written in Hebrew, behold, ye would have had no imperfection in our record.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement ...

I thank you and understand you are contented...

But for me I wanted answers and I know that the Lord has answered my prayer and lead me to His Plain and Precious truths I also it is promise that more of Lord word will come forth...

Yes I have encounter these rebuttals during the time of my conversion.

It was interesting for at the time I investigate the things the opposition had to say against the Lord's Church I got this forbodden a fear...it can be confusing but when I would read the things of the Lord it would bring comfort, when I read the things of opposing team it would conjure all kinds of forbodden.

So as I pondered and knelt humbly before my Heavenly Father and ask of him in the Name of Jesus Christ, I was given peace and could discern which belong to the Lord and which was distortion of the word of the Lord!

John 14
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

These were the days of Walter Martin propaganda before my baptism into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints!

After my Baptize my discernment heighten lingered for a few weeks to allow me to know the place of which the Lord expected His children are to live!

All the things you Bellflower have posted is nothing new it is the same old gainsaying, many times repackage!

Again thank you

Mormonism claims to answer many questions that Christianity doesn't answer ...

Quester it is not Mormonism it is the wisdom of Jesus Christ our Lord Whom preserve His word for his children in latter-days!

***

but the real question is whether God really wants for us to have the answers to these questions.

I really don't think you have read what I have posted to say the Lord did not want his children to have answers to these things is silly!

Matt. 7: 8
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Matt. 21: 22
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Luke 11: 10
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

John 9: 15
15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

John 16: 24
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

James 4: 3
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

1 Jn. 3: 22
22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

1 Ne. 15: 11
11 Do ye not remember the things which the Lord hath said?—If ye will not harden your hearts, and ask me in faith, believing that ye shall receive, with diligence in keeping my commandments, surely these things shall be made known unto you.

Enos 1: 15 15 Wherefore, I knowing that the Lord God was able to preserve our records, I cried unto him continually, for he had said unto me: Whatsoever thing ye shall ask in faith, believing that ye shall receive in the name of Christ, ye shall receive it.

I would suggest to you, Restornu, ... that you would stick to the truth that Jesus brought with Him when He came 2000 years ago, and trust that it is enough.

I have lived on earth for 61 years and have witness the revision of facts in history I have lived through and your going to try to sell the story that in over 2000 years man has not been tempted to tamper with the word of the Lord!

If you ever searched Irish Histroy non-LDS, they too question how well has the Word of the Lord been preserved...for they too have records that don't align with what the mainstream world is selling!

The Irish have records of Jeremiah the Prophet and the Daughters of King Zedakiah.

As I observed there is an order and a pattern in the ways of the Lord, which the mainstrem world has deviated from order and the pattern!

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say,

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
as in heaven, so in earth.

On earth we have a father and a mother to the son and daughters!

In Heaven you can't have a Father and Sons with out a Mother!

Order and pattern!

Hmmm . . . Joseph Smith murdered by a lynch mob - your kind of justice? Amazing. No wonder many of us saints keep our powder dry as well as our preparations for emergencies up to date.

I see the article credits but that is just limited and I like to read the contexts!

Well, if you are going to condemn us because of several passages that admit being human is to err, you can have nothing in your life since there is nothing on this earth at this time that is perfection.

I've lived it - ALL of it.

Born a trusting LDS girl. Got used and abused by it's members.

Suicide seemed like a good option.

BEWARE.

Gee, I was born a trusting Baptist boy. Got used and abused by its members.

Atheism seemed a good althernative.

Then the Lord reached out and touched me and life has been real, wonderful and useful ever since.
