Sen. John Kerry Keeps 2008 Options Open

By ANDREW MIGA, Associated Press WriterMon Jan 2, 3:55 AM ET

It's almost as if Sen. John Kerry never stopped running for president. He still jets across the country, raising millions of dollars and rallying Democrats. He still stalks the TV news show circuit, scolding President Bush at every turn.

His campaign Web site boasts of an online army of 3 million supporters.

The Massachusetts Democrat, defeated by Bush in 2004, insists it is far too early to talk about the 2008 race, but some analysts assume he has already positioning himself for another shot at the White House.

"Obviously, Kerry has all but said he wants another crack at the thing," said Neal Thigpen, a political science professor at South Carolina's Francis Marion University. "He's going to make a second try."

While most losing presidential nominees quickly fade into the political landscape, Kerry has worked hard at maintaining a high public profile.

"He's continuing the fight he began in 2004," said Kerry spokesman David Wade. "He wants to make it very clear he's a fighter who is going to continue to fight for his agenda."

Borrowing a page from Republican Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record)'s 2000 postelection playbook, Kerry has kept much of his presidential political organization intact. He has also used his fundraising prowess to aid Democrats across the country, collecting chits that could be called if he seeks the party's White House nomination.

"He believes in his heart and soul that he came just a whisker away from being president," said Ronald Kaufman, a veteran GOP operative with Massachusetts roots.

Yup, The Screamer and Hanoi John, with the lunatic left Soros/Internet money, against the Clintonistas and whatever money they can con out of moderates and lefties using their 'centrist' deceptions.

They'll try to work it out before the primaries tho - they aren't stupid. Skerry's showing in the last election will give him some clout - I don't think any Democrat thinks Hitlery could actually be elected. But a year from now that might be different - a lot depends on the 2006 elections.

"What exactly is his agenda?"

Paying off that $6 million campaign fund mortgage on his Boston brownstone is probably at the top of his list, right now.

Somebody misspelled "testicle".

"He's continuing the fight he began in 2004,"

Which is to convince the American people that he is not and arrogant, sefl-centered phoney with pretentions of adequacy.

Will we get to see all the files that a properly executed Form 180 will reveal? Will we get to see original versions of those files? Or, are they permanently altered or destroyed?

I guess he didn't get enough of the truth last time out. Nothing's changed. He's still a traitorous weasel. He still has no plan; ready to surrender in a moments notice.

His imaginary time in Cambodia was seared into his memory. But, apparently, the reality that the Swift Boat Vets brought to light is not.

Sear this Johnny!

I agree with one thing, Kerry was too close for comfort in getting into White House. But, I think a 40% vote total for him would have been too much IMHO

Within a whisker of becoming preisdent.

Here would have been a president whose total experience in foreign affairs would be:

* meeting with the enemy during wartime and arguing their case against the United States before the Senate of the United States of America

* helping said enemy post-war brush aside demands for MIA accounting

* helping a relative arrange lucrative post-war contracts with said enemy

Why do America's left support his man?

Wot?

Oh. The left has not supported the U.S. in war since W.W.II when we helped defend their Uncle Joe's workers' paradise.

I think he MUST run for President in 2008. Only this time he will not keep his senate seat because like Edwards last time, he knows he can't hold it.

So he MUST make a run in 2008, as he sees that as his only chance to remain in political power and even if he loses he still saves face rather than trying to hold his senate seat and lose it.

But he won't win anything, Kerry is finished. Thank God.

RE: "Well, he did serve in Vietnam."

Yes, he did and he deserved our respect and appreciation for that -- right up until he switched sides.

Kerry's only chance is just like it was in 04. If all the other candidates melt down or fold, the Dems may have to go again to Kerry as the last viable candidate standing. Kerry was the default candidate in 04; that is the only way he will get the nod in 08.

Hillary will make sure Kerry doesn't even get close, unless she decided to fold; and that is highly unlikely. She is salivating at the idea of occupying the Oval Office, and she knows 08 is her last best hope for it.

He believes in his heart and soul that he came just a whisker away from being president

George Bush gave him the shave but he stuck it out there for the Swiftvets to kick.

Kerry is so much fun! He has a toilet paper trailer, looks at it, and says "I came sooo, close to wiping myself". Let's keep him around.
