Pressure being lowered in pipelines linked to Ukraine's gas system -Gazprom (Russia)
Interfax (RU) ^ | January 1, 2006

MOSCOW. Jan 1 (Interfax) - Gazprom has started to reduce pressure in pipelines that deliver Russian gas to Ukrainian consumers, Russian gas giant spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said in Moscow on Sunday.

Gas shipments transiting Ukraine en route to Europe are proceeding in full, he said.

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered Ukraine a three-month gas price freeze as long as the Ukrainian authorities agreed to pay what Gazprom sees as the market price of $230 for 1,000 cubic meters, Kupriyanov said.

"We were ready to accommodate the Ukrainian people's needs and maintain comfortable conditions for our work during the winter season, which is the most difficult period from the point of view of energy supplies. But our offer has been turned down," the spokesman said.

It means that "from the very beginning the Ukrainian authorities had plans to begin to use gas without permission from January 1. To be more precise, they planned to start to steal gas - steal it from European consumers," he said.

Ukraine's rejection "of our proposed solution to the problems will entail catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian economy and, unfortunately, the fraternal people of Ukraine," Kupriyanov said.

"We believe that it will be extremely difficult - impossible, to be more precise - for the authorities of Ukraine to explain to their people the reason for such a short-sighted policy," the spokesman said.

1. Israel holds democratic elections on a regular basis. Belarus is the last dictatorship in Europe. ===

Is it so important? Accually it is all just words.

Russia wants to punish countries that exercise democratic choice and reward some of the world's most repressive regimes. How do you justify Putin's encouragement of Karimov post Andijan (quite apart from the fact that Putin also encouraged Karimov to crack down on protestors in the first place)? ==

United States cooperates with Pakistan. Is this regime much better then Uzbekistan's? Same -stan same mentality same kind of "democracy".

Why does Russia fear coloured revolutions so?==

Russia worries revolutions inspired on foreign money. Russia had one in 1917 don't want more. Russian proverb says: "Who is paying then order the musics".

Why can't it adopt a mature attitude, accept that the people in former Soviet countries have made their choice and then work with them to build a new relationship instead of bullying, hectoring and threatening them?==

Just pragmatic approach. Russia doesn't want to subsidize no post soviet countries. But wants to charge market prices for her product. "Let them pay in full" -nothing else Russia wants from them.

ROTFL We the Poles are laughing so much that nothing can destroy our great humor. How brainless Russian foreign policy might be? Look like amount of stupidity is endless. How to totally destroy own reputation among investors, how to improve dislike of your country in the eyes of neighboring states? Ask the Russians, they are masters in it! :-) Looks like Eastern/Central European initiative blessed by us will be very popular among the countries of the region. Now when they are afraid of Russia, they will try to work with us, thank you Putin! :-))

One Ukranian response might be to terminate the Russian Navy's lease on Ukrania's Black Sea ports, and re-rent them to the US Navy

They cann't do it. It tied with border treaty. If they denounce lease then they denounce border treaty. Impossible.

Now Germany was required to pay a price for her crimes against humanity. Maybe "reparations" might be the appropriate goodwill gesture required from the wealth gained through sale of natural resources for the former 'family members' of the Soviet Union.

It might even be considered a divorce settlement.

Many. But the core the mutual agreement on status quo. This treaty is very beneficial for Ukraine hence it submits the commies driven border. Many russian regions went to Ukraine beacuse of that. Commie injustice.
DO you know that commies from Ukraine ruled Soviet Union for 30 years?

From Ukraine we receive Ukrainian gas and even if also some little amount of Russian gas it is not so important. But it is good occasion to make a suit against Gazprom and condemn Kremlin’s fascist policy, where the hell is our gas that we paid for? :) If you think that Poland will join to this anti-Ukrainian campaign, ohh you are so wrong :-)

At a session of the Security Council on December 22, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia should claim world leadership in the energy sector in a mid-term perspective, and is going to play this role at the upcoming G8 summit.
Putin said that Russia expects to be a full-fledged participant in international institutions, such as G8, WTO and OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), but reserves for itself the right to uphold its positions in foreign energy markets.

It seems that the uneducated narrow minded KGB apparatchiks in Moscow are living in their own world.

Now countries of our region has few interesting argument to discuss with our German friends. I’m curious wherever they still claim that Baltic pipeline has nothing to do with policy.

As a mentioned above if the Russians must be always such an assholes but smart assholes then they should make their threads AFTRE they will finish Baltic sea pipeline not BEFORE they even started! Their stupid tactic give us the chance to diverse our sources and good arguments to at least try to block this project. Schroeder’s primitive behavior it is another argument.

Answer will be "stolen in Ukraine". So what? Gazprom has no influence in Ukraine which steals your gas.
It is force-major situation. Right?
So the delivery through Ukraine has to be proclaimed as "unsafe". So has to be ceased until the garantee of safety.
Gazprom will lose its profit but your people may be cold in night. Thank to Ukraine.

My dear I will reveal you that russian people easy support total cease to delivery to Europe UNTIL russian product will be safe druing trasportation. ONLY North Baltic pipeline may garantee it.
The ukranian govermental stealings proved it very vividly.

Remember Lucasz what I tell you now. The jokes are ended today.
Russians are very very grim in this situtation. Poland and other customers are better to help Russia to make order at trasportaion routes OR stop whole gas delivery to Europe. Use coal until North Baltic pipeline will be operational.

RUSSIA WILL NOT ALLOW STEALING HER PRODUCT!
