C'mon!!! Do a shameless plug!!! What will be the title and what will it be about?
Got a book jacket yet?
Before Alzheimers made communication completely impossible, my mother asked if I thought there would be kitty cats in heaven. All I could think to say was: Of course, Mamma ... how else could it be raining cats and dogs? Somehow that satisfied her and she laughed. I inherited her great love of all animals, cats in particular ... and there is a great 20 pound Ginger Tom sitting right beside my computer ... purring.
My mother is never far from my thoughts because she is so much a part of who I am ... the same will be true for those of you who have recently lost your mothers. We take our comfort where we find it.
I am getting ready for New Years: the black-eye peas are soaking; I am candying some kumquats to use as garnish. I went to both of the stores here in this rural county where we live ... came home without a head of cabbage ... so, back out to get cabbage. A little cabbage goes a long way with us ... so I picked up the ingredients to stuff some of the outer leaves ... smothered in "red gravy" [tomato sauce to those who are not from New Orleans] ... I have plenty of rice on hand ... and a small boneless ham to bake ... We are all set for one of those wonderful traditional ol' Southern meals.
As I sit here, far from "home", I am listening to the CD my daughter gave me for Christmas of the original Dukes of Dixieland ... and my thoughts turn back to people, places and events from the past.
Tomorrow will begin a new year. I have much to be thankful for ... my beloved husband, who is in very frail health, is still with me and we are looking forward to good days ahead.
To all in FReepland ... blessings, peace of mind, good health and good FRiends ... who could ask for anything more?
I was fortunate to get me a wife from Erie (11th Street then 4th Street)
Enjoyed my visits - the Peninsula is great. Had a January visit with 30" of snow on the ground.
But, all in all, I am glad mt sweetie agreed to locate in EastTennessee
Though the evil has hit around the world - night clubs, subways, and suiciders - they have not been able to pull off an encore to their 9/11 .
A lot of people have done a lot of good work since that dastardly deed.
I got some black-eyed peas...which I've never had...but I've been inspired by the recipes...and though I don't eat pork as a rule, I did get 2 slices of "homemade" bacon for flavoring.
And I'm gonna make a REAL deep-dish Chicago pizza this week:
--canned organic tomatoes
--onions, garlic, oregano
--mozzarella, parmesan
I've already got the dough from a place called "Trader Joe's." Great store!!
...and, sigh!, 3 oz. of teeny salad shrimp for the kitties. They don't know it's New Year's...but it's their favorite!
Sorry to hear about your husband hope he is well enough to welcome the new year in with you tonight.
Not bad going I recognised all of that and I have heard from friends on the dose and the finest of Trader Joes which seems to be an international store.
I stopped smoking six years ago. Not one thing that the government did regarding restrictions or taxes, nor one thing that well intentioned non-smokers told me had a thing to do with my quitting. This is one ex-smoker who will fight to the death for the rights of bar and restaurant owners to run their business as they see fit. I will patronize them, or not, based upon the way they are conducting business. If they wany my business, they will cater to me; if not, I will go somewhere where they will. It's as simple as that.
This is a property rights issue and, without property rights, no other rights are possible (quoting A. Rand).
thank you for the tip, i will check it out now!
I have a question about black-eyed peas on New Years - when are you supposed to have them, tonight or tomorrow? I know it is a Southern tradition, but I never got around to the why part of it..................
The things you've done for these 13 years have shaped your son for what's going on in his future...so if your happy with him now, it will only get better!!! Happy New Year!
That was very nice, snugs.
Wow! , you are giving me a flashback!!!
We still have family in Erie, and each time we visit there, we go "round" the peninsula!!
Terrible winters there, but lots of good people!!
Sounds like you found one!!
OK I will bite,what is a snark?
LOL! I think our experience was pretty much the same.
Yes, the craving goes away, eventually....but it was the hardest thing I have ever done. But it is the one thing that I've done in life that I am most proud of (outside of raising my son...and doing a darned good job of it. LOL).
it sure puts a kick in the coffee!!!!!
I liked that I could walk from 4th Street, up Parade Street to four taverns, then wobble back home.

We will be going out to dinner at a nearby [40 miles] resort. Hardly a rowdy party but at least an evening out and a nice bottle of bubbly!
I will content myself with the rowdy party here on this live thread! LOL
Cheers!

Happy almost New Year!
We have no plans for tonight unless you call sneaking sleep in between feedings in the middle of the night "plans".
I hope that my house will grow by a few hundred square feet this year. Oh heck! Let's make it a thousand! A girl can dream, can't she? :o)
