An Iraqi infant with a severe birth defect began her journey Friday to the United States, where she will receive medical care at the urging of U.S. soldiers who discovered her during a raid.
Noor al-Zahra, who is 3 months old, and family took off in a military transport plane from Baghdad airport, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. They will fly to Kuwait and then board a commercial flight, said social and medical workers who have arranged for her care.

God Bless her and the American Angels who helped her!
Say an extra prayer for her. Even with the best medical care, the lifespan for babies with spina bifida is drastically reduced.
I heard the doctor who is treating her. He said that the spina bifidia is very severe, but she may be able to eventually walk with a cane
Extra special prayers for this little one. And God bless our wonderful military, please, Lord, keep them safe.

I thought with best medical care, people with spinal bifida did very well - there may be some spinal damage already, but the doctors should be able to fix up the opening so there is no further danger of infection.
Not sure where you got the link you are using, but I got the link off of the Yahoo! news website. It is as follows:

As much as I am a big fan of the journalistic integrity of any institution that would employ Mark Morford, the story was credited to AP. I never visited the Chronicle. But thanks for the lesson on FR copyright policy. I have no idea what I'd do without you.
God Bless this child.
Prayers.
Beautiful child.
Poor little thing. It sounds very serious, I hope they can do something for her. The spinal cord is one thing doctors just can't work with very well yet.
Prayers for her. At least she has a chance at a better life.
I think you're referring to pre-natal surgery. Too late for that.
I'll be the first to say it: It's a waste of money - probably tax payer money - for a feel good story.
Why do you say that?
Several reasons. They are flying in a sick child from Iraq because it will make news and make people feel good about what America is doing in Iraq. They could probably save at least two American children for what it will cost to save this one Iraqi child. I also don't believe the child will recover well when sent back to Iraq. Of course, the taxpayers will subsidize her treatment there as well.
It's a publicity stunt and I don't like it.
Yeah! Is this any way to run a quagmire?
What a cutie pie!! I'm praying for as much success as the doctors can have with her condition.
Not a waste of money at all. The good will created by the soldiers' actions will go a L-O-N-G way with the people of Iraq!
