Just announced on Fox News, the Justice Department is going to investigate leaks pertaining to Goverment Wiretapping and Security programs.
:) HA!
I sincerely hope that is the case. Perhaps they'll recieve a Sandy Berger type slap. A double-burger with french cheese.
If the Rockefeller memo had been taken seriously 2 years ago, I would have a little more faith.
Seriously, homeland security IS NOT separate from National Security. But it is now treated as such. I've no faith in either parties inclination to their utmost about either.
But, as long as we have the entertainment value of the ongoing draining of the middle class, both parties will be happy to go on with the show.
Too bad it could not to early next week, oh well, still a good thing...

Democrats Mull Politicizing Iraq War Intelligence
GOP Slams Dems for Politicizing Iraq Intel
Following is a verbatim transcript of the memo written by a Democrat on the staff of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that suggests how to make the greatest [political] gain off of intelligence data leading to the war against Iraq. The memo was obtained by Fox News.
[NOTE: Subsequent to the publication of this memo, Sen. Jay Rockefeller admitted that he directed his staff to write the memo, but claimed he never circulated it outside his office.]
[BEGIN MEMO TRANSCRIPT]
We have carefully reviewed our options under the rules and believe we have identified the best approach. Our plan is as follows:1) Pull the majority along as far as we can on issues that may lead to major new disclosures regarding improper or questionable conduct by administration officials. We are having some success in that regard. For example, in addition to the president's State of the Union speech, the chairman has agreed to look at the activities of the Office of the Secretary of Defense as well as Secretary Bolton's office at the State Department. The fact that the chairman supports our investigations into these offices and co-signs our requests for information is helpful and potentially crucial. We don't know what we will find but our prospects for getting the access we seek is far greater when we have the backing of the majority. (Note: We can verbally mention some of the intriguing leads we are pursuing.)
2) Assiduously prepare Democratic "additional views" to attach to any interim or final reports the committee may release. Committee rules provide this opportunity and we intend to take full advantage of it. In that regard, we have already compiled all the public statements on Iraq made by senior administration officials. We will identify the most exaggerated claims and contrast them with the intelligence estimates that have since been declassified. Our additional views will also, among other things, castigate the majority for seeking to limit the scope of the inquiry. The Democrats will then be in a strong position to reopen the question of establishing an independent commission (i.e. the Corzine amendment).
3) Prepare to launch an independent investigation when it becomes clear we have exhausted the opportunity to usefully collaborate with the majority. We can pull the trigger on an independent investigation at any time -- but we can only do so once. The best time to do so will probably be next year either:
A) After we have already released our additional views on an interim report -- thereby providing as many as three opportunities to make our case to the public: 1) additional views on the interim report; 2) announcement of our independent investigation; and 3) additional views on the final investigation; or B) Once we identify solid leads the majority does not want to pursue. We could attract more coverage and have greater credibility in that context than one in which we simply launch an independent investigation based on principled but vague notions regarding the "use" of intelligence.In the meantime, even without a specifically authorized independent investigation, we continue to act independently when we encounter foot-dragging on the part of the majority. For example, the FBI Niger investigation was done solely at the request of the vice chairman; we have independently submitted written questions to DoD; and we are preparing further independent requests for information.
Summary
Intelligence issues are clearly secondary to the public's concern regarding the insurgency in Iraq. Yet, we have an important role to play in the revealing the misleading -- if not flagrantly dishonest methods and motives -- of the senior administration officials who made the case for a unilateral, preemptive war. The approach outline above seems to offer the best prospect for exposing the administration's dubious motives and methods.
[END MEMO TRANSCRIPT]
By the words his own staff wrote at his direction, Sen. Rockefeller reveals the Leftist Democrats' attitude about intelligence. It is "clearly secondary" -- in the memo's words -- "to the public's concern." However, that is a demagogic fig leaf thinly covering the fact that intelligence and, as a consequence, national security, are considered by Rockefeller to be secondary to the DEMS' concerns.
Right you are! Do you remember Rush's names for him? "leaky Leahy" and (my favorite) "Senator Depends." Leahy was suspended temporarily from his committee but this was only the proverbial "slap on the wrist." I don't know what would be required to send a congressman to jail. I know they have a political immunity while in office which protects them from slander and libel suits but I'm not sure how far this extends. The biggest problem is that the guys in the "club" look out for each other! It's kind of like the fox guarding the chicken coop!
I want a bumper sticker that says: Impeach the Press
bump
"I have always gotten the impression that Novak, like Pat Buchanan is anti-semitic....and just hates the idea of Israel being safer in the future."
~~~~~~~~~~~
A seemingly little known fact about Novak, though it doesn't necessarily refute what you posted -- I have no idea about his stance on Israel, haven't watched or read him in a long while:
"He was raised Jewish, but in the early 1990s began attending Christian services, and in 1998 he was baptized into the Roman Catholic church."
How about a bumper sticker that says: Iraq now has a Free Press, Why not America?
Pray for W and Our Awesome Troops
That is what it it about with these reporters...."damaging" the President....all else is secondary.
The most likely leaker was Yaaawn Cut & Run when he was running for Prez last year.
Happy New Year to W and Our Freedom Fighters
Actually, this might have very well been the case.
"I didn't know that we were at War .... That was Bush's 1st mistake .... NOT Declaring War."
The Constitution does not give the President the power to declare war. The power to declare war is given to Congress. The constitution does not put any limits on how to declare war, just that Congress is the branch of the Government to declare war.
Wouldn't a free press in America be something new and grande?! Maybe one that took actually our side in a war?! One that honored sacrifices made by the sons and daughters that are serving the mission that was duly authorized by the elected President after extensive debate and policy discussions, and reauthorized in his re-election? Quite a fantasy. Maybe their newspaper subscriptions might pick up again.
Out of curiosity, do we know for sure that it didn't?
He was removed from the Intelligence Committee, and has not been put back on.
He should have been removed from the Senate and sent to jail.
Bumperoo!
This thread is becoming a massive source of information for any media outlet that cares to find the truth..
Good post!
Did you hear the expert on that subject today: If someone at CIA or NSA or... want to blow the whistle, there is official places they can go to do so and none of those places are the NYT or WAPO.
