OK, new thread to celebrate reaching a major milestone! Within a few hours Team FreeRepublic will be in the Top1000!!!!
We should pass Dean for America, around noon tommorrow. Other liberal teams want to challenge us (DUmmies and Kos) but we're humiliating them beyond description.
I like it...
A brand new 4.0 Ghz PC with all the bells and whistles...$6495.00
An entire series of PC for DUmmies...$49.95.
Folding@Home with Baghdad Bob...PRICELESS!
:O)

I like this one a lot. Truely, I think it says more about us, and it's a very classy and positive image to portray.
The Bush Country image did it's job with the DU crowd, but we are, collectively, more than just an electronic Bush pep rally, are we not?

I replaced the FR team logo as you can see above!
Happy Folding!
The console version is slightly faster, perhaps 5%, and
seems to utilize memory better than the GUI version.
Another thing to try, if you have an anti-virus program, ie, Norton, Mcafee, etc, is to exclude the Folding@home folder.
Some don't play nice with programs that are constantly writing files.
If your machine has a screen saver enabled, especially some of the third party ones downloaded from the internet, disable it. Sorry, we have to give up the "aquariums" and other pretty visuals, in the interest of science.. :)
No actually, some of these screen savers are super memory hogs. I just set my machines to blank out the monitor after an hour. It saves on juice, and prolongs the life of the monitor.
I like it... very classy.
I agree, the eagle logo is very good.
It certainly does.
Every CPU helps us move higher and higher.
Our goal is to be in the Top 100.
Thanks so much, systematic, ken!!!
Now, do I get my wall plaque? LOL
:O)

It would be kinda fun, wouldn't it? Thanks so much for the bump!
There's an Ewido active X malware run that cleaned my machine up neatly.(freebie) Hijack this worked well on Aurora but the crap I had on my machine would crash Adaware. The microsoft beta spyware is so pathetic that it lacks humor.
Good move.
Still running the monitor I got with my Dell XPS D300(Trinitron) in Feb. 1998. Running HP 3 Gig 512 now. Do I need more memory (yes) I will say that my fan is running as much as when I convert AVI to DVD files.
Memory always helps, but unless you're having problems with the size of the swap file, it might not be too much of a concern. One way to guage it is after leaving the machine alone for a while, and you get back in to do some other work: if it seems sluggish / lots of hard drive activity, you might be a little low on memory for the WU in progress.
As far as the fan... F@H will use every available CPU cycle and keep it at 100%. If you think things are getting a bit too warm, use the configuration panel to move the desired CPU usage down a bit.
I've still got an old Zenith 1390 monitor, purchased in 1993. It still works, but at 640x480 max resolution, and a 14" screen, it's pretty useless, and the burn-in is incredible. It works ok, to boot up a linux server that my kid is running, but that's only when he needs to be directly on the console, to troubleshoot.
True, newer monitors don't have the phosphor burn-in problems, that went away @1997, but the cheaper they get, the cheaper the components, and I've literally seen the Walmart/Computer Hut el-cheapos, literally melt the board, under the High Voltage transformer, from heat buildup, and when that board fails, the fireworks are magnificent...
