I remember the first thread we posted here on this. We were debating if the truckers had the Portlands mixed up.

Now, I guess it was just a political money laundering scheme.

look, at some point you do less than brilliant things to keep yet another hysterical headline out of the MSM. can you imagine?

DESPERATELY NEEDED ICE ALLOWED TO MELT

Millions will die. Mostly poor black folks.

---Oh, don't worry. After a Democrat gets elected, FEMA will run smoothly, the NSA won't spy on anyone and the IRS will give you a small piece of candy with every audit.---

won't happen as long as we still have the Diebold code. . . er, should I have said that?

"FEMA doesn't need to give out ice."

Did you see the shrimp boats lined up with full loads and no refrigerated storage to unload it?

Is that so you can cook them with the electricity you don't have.

I can't believe you say you're from Virginia. Didn't you live thru Isabel with the rest of us? My house was without power for 8 days.

8 hot, sweaty, stinky days. We lost all the food in the refrigerator and freezer but all we really wanted and needed was something cold to drink. Particularly my 3-year-old.

In weather and conditions like that, ice is not a luxury, it's a health issue.

I'll let someone else play. Gotta spread out the code among at least three people anyway.

You know what they say about people who can't take a joke. But let's see, if I've got water to drink and food to eat I can survive. Now how many thousand year's did people make it without ice??? You must live in the wetlands of virginia?? I live in the mountain's, but we did have a snow storm that took out the power for a week a few years ago, and the gov'ment never brought me a thing. Put some of the food in the snow, fired-up the old bear stove in the basement, cooked on my gas grill. Used the generator now and then to keep the deep freeze frozen. Thought about my dear old grandpa, who was born-ed in a log house with dirt floor's. Same house his pappy was born in. Just over the mountain from where I live now.

David Bourgeois, of the Louisiana State University's AgCenter Research and Extension, reports that fisheries throughout two of Louisiana's largest southern parishes lie in ruins.

"Commercial fishing has pretty much shut down," he said. "We have no dock to offload a catch, no refrigeration, no ice, and no fuel."

Bourgeois is a state agent for fisheries in the coastal country west and south of New Orleans.

Bourgeois estimates that 4,000 families in the two ravaged parishes make their living from commercial fishing. At the moment they aren't making a living at all.

Galliano shrimper Scott St. Pierre said he hasn’t been out on the water since before Thanksgiving. The shrimp season is slated to close Dec. 20, but St. Pierre estimates about three-fourths of Louisiana shrimpers are no longer in business -- and with good reason.

An influx of imported shrimp, ice shortages and other troubles have made it difficult for many shrimpers to make a living, with seemingly no help in sight.

It’s anticipated that the dockside losses in the shrimp business due to Hurricane Katrina will be $72 to $81 million over the next year.

Attempting to offset a $72 to $81 million loss, not to mention supporting 4000 families and an industry. Now that $280,000 just turned into chump change.
