A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Dutchess, DollyCali, Mama_Bear, GodBlessUSA ~

Thank you to all our Hall of Famers and to all of you who have become part of our Finest Family ... as regular contributors and supporters who drop in every day to say hello.  We wouldn't be here without you. : )
We're THREE AND A HALF years old now! Still having fun. We hope you are. As promised, for your information and perusal, here is our fourteenth "Hall of Fame" - a list of all our threads from the very beginning ... from Monday, June 24, 2002, through yesterday, December 27, 2005.

Shoot! I meant to address this post I'm replying to - to both of you.

Nan, cellpadding and cellspacing are spacing inside a table command that nothing else can 'penetrate'. It means that when you're nesting several tables inside one another, whatever cellpadding and cellspacing you specify is going to be the background color or image of the table just before it. Your next table you give the table command for cannot get closer to any of the edges than the number of cellPADDING pixels you specify. The cellSPACING is a little bit different - it means that your tables themselves are spaced whatever amount apart that you specify the cellSPACING to be. I bet that doesn't make much sense. :( Very hard to explain. One just has to practice using different numbers to see the effect you get.

Those were both great reads and I would have loved to meet up with you two on that trip!

We have very much in common. You studied my favorite subjects, and I had entertained becoming a priest or a sister in an order in our church for quite sometime.

My hubby laughs it off, because I can have a mouth way worse than a sailor...

Oh, I love that song, Victoria! I even like it in the midi form. :) Now I'm saving the wave by Bob Hope - and his wife (I think). :)

Yes, 3 1/2 years! Look at the Canteen now - it was 4 years in October. :)

Gosh, that's a beautiful bouquet! Thanks, Meg. (I see you changed the cellpaddings, too!) See how easy that is? And to change background gradients or other images, you just switch the urls. :) Same with the font color.

Hmmmmmm.....I have never quite understood the difference between cellPADDING and cellSPACING. Even after your explanation to Nan.....I still don't get it. I never use cellspacing. Seems redundant to me, since cellpadding does what I need it to do.

I notice that Amy does the opposite - always uses cellspacing and not cellpadding.

There are default measurements in cellpadding and in cellspacing. If you DON'T specify cellspacing=0, you will still get a width of 2 pixels - the default is 2. If you DON'T specify cellpadding=0, you will get a width of 1 pixel - the default for cellpadding is 1.

I use the cellSPACING when I am using a border, because I don't want that tiny white *stripe* on the bg, so I use cellspacing=0. Also, if you want a *really* tiny sliver of gradient ribbon, which I use a lot, it's important to do the cellspacing=0. :)

Okay, I now understand cellspacing. I also now understand why I could not get the "little white edge" to go away on one of my state posts. I tried and tried to eliminate it and couldn't. I get it now. Who would have thought that defaults were built into cellspacing/padding? Thank you, teacher Billie. :-)
