Ranked by the editors of Human Events
1. Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R.I.)
Once approached by Democratic Leader Harry Reid to switch parties, Chafee has long supported liberal polices. He backs legal abortion, gay rights, federal-funded health care, strict environmental protections and a higher minimum wage. Opposes ANWR drilling. Also was the only Republican in Congress not to endorse the President's reelection and one of three who tried to gut Bush's tax cuts.

Except for the big spending part, you described him to a "t".
You forgot to mention he endorsed Mario Cuomo for governor one year.
He is liked by the media for the republican nomination, if he was the nominee, the Media would villify him as Hitler right after.
Before 9/11, the media in NYC loathed him.
No, I think McCain knew Kerry was a loser and he doesn't want to play second to Kerry.
On this we agree.
McCain won't play second to anyone. He's not my kind of candidate.
Still think the MSM knew Kerry needed Red States to win and over hyped the VP suggestion.
Call McCain what he is a liberal RINO. They have really been powdering his ass on here for the past few days, trying to remake him to appear more conservative than he is.
So can we at least call him a RIVRO?
YES!
Absolutely, that's perfect!
tis true....those states could join Quebec maybe...or the Maritime Provinces
some of them might not complain actually
I agree, but to go to the very root of the problem, we real conservatives are a minority. We just don't have the votes to keep RINO's out.
Bush was a moron to sign that damned thing expecting SCOTUS would do his work for him. Ugh. He's done a number of STUPID things: pushing illegal's amnesty, McCain-Feingold, run away pork spending, always caving on "veto" threats... the man is an embarrassment!
those states could join Quebec maybe...or the Maritime Provinces
Sad to say but Massachusetts and Maine could disappear into the Maple Leaf State and not know the difference.
I agree with most of what's been said thus far about RINOs but allow me to make some differentiations among the motley crew. First, such RINOs as Snow, Chafee, et al., have ALWAYS been RINOs. But the WORST of the lot is Hagel. He comes from a legitimate conservative tradition. AND - he's the only RINO who has serious presidential ambitions. Thus far, he's tried to subvert the Patriot Act and George Bush's prosecution of the war in Iraq. Say what you will about John McCain but he's been the most consistent proponent and supporter of the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism in general. I know these RINOs will disagree with Bush on domestic issues (so do I on some!) but on the all-important isssue of national security and combatting terrorism the most DANGEROUS RINO is Hagel. He's also betrayed his conservative base in Nebraska -- they, and all FReepers, should let him know that this sort of posturing for media and liberal approval, won't go down with us. Have you noticed how popoular such RINOs are with the media (so long as they remain useful idiots and criticise Bush) but how seldom true conservatives become their darlings? Every conservative should send a clear message: DOWN WITH HAGEL!!
If you had to make a comprehensive list of RINOs, it would be a mile long. Lindsay Graham belongs at the top of the list.
A list like this is not complete without Governor Arnold and Congressman Bill Thomas.
Exactly right. Maine has become dominated by the increasing population of the south part of the state, over half of which are transplants, many from Massachusetts, where they are fleeing the socialist paradise they created. Unfortunately, they never learned.
The northern part of the state, though, is much more conservative - as a matter of fact Michaud is more like a DINO.
Leach deserves much higher billing than #10. Especially lately, he votes with Iowa's lone Democrat Representative (Boswell) WAY more often than he votes with the three real Republicans.
Leach just happens to also be the genius who called for the abolishment of the Electoral College immediately after Dubya beat Gore. Think about it... not just a Republican, but a small-state Republican says we should dump the Electoral College and choose the President by popular vote!
Jim Leach used to be at least fiscally conservative and a thinking man. But lately, he's outed himself as not only a liberal, but also a buffoon.
yeah, I would have put Boehlert above Pataki at least (though not very far above)
Considering how many shills didn't make the list though, 10 is still a pretty dubious honor.
I generally agree with you, but only think he's an embarrassment on some domestic issues. Of course those are generally the most important ones unless your enemies are the USSR, China, or militant muslim murderers!!!
Maine has become dominated by the increasing population of the south part of the state,
Interesting, only one northern Maine county went red in 2004. See map link below. However, they are more conservative than York or Cumberland counties. Unfortunately they don't have the population to make changes State wide.

Couldn't agree more. He seems a little 'passive/aggressive' to me....lol
