My wife and I have been looking at the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace program. Anyone here tried it? If so, what were your sucesses and what were the difficulties you had in doing it. We did some traveling over the holidays and listened to one of his books on tape and found it interesting.....but words are always easier than actions. We're ready for some pain to make some gain......but are also looking out for problems we can eitehr avoid or use someone elses wisdom when we encounter them.

Thank you for your note and congratulations. I also saw your note to Damocles. For a 14 year old to say that is powerful.

My wife, son, daughter in law and I recently attended a live Dave event and were volunteers. Volunteer means you man the product tables at the live event before the show, during breaks and after the show. Men help pack up when the show is done. As a bonus, we get dinner with Dave and get to meet him personally. We saw a very humble side of Dave that is not normally heard on his program. It was very rewarding.

I like to think that driving East after work, you have the sun on your back. Unless you live on the eastern shoreline, in which case you better have a life vest or know how to swim...

“Look at California real estate with cheap interest only adjustable rate real estate loans. Jack up interest rates a bit. Kaboom!”

Little did you know how prophetic your words would be back in 2005...look at the mess the country’s in now...

I know that banks LOVE, almost INSIST, that you let them give you a Debit Card. Why shouldn’t they? They can put more of the risk on you. Better deal for the bank....at least in my case cuz I always pay off the total.

I always refuse and demand a CC-only card.

I always insist that they NOT up my limit.

And I’m liable for $50 on fraud, not my account limit.

It was hardly prophecy. More like watching the fuse burn on a firecracker.

Oh hey! Yes...we’ve been through it. My WHOLE house! It was the best $90 I ever spent! I’d recommend that ANYBODY go through it! He un-complicates financial management and explains how to live debt free. We were doing that for the most part already, but he really helped us solidify some areas.

I did his thing for about 6 months.

It really sets you straight on budgets and gets you into a positive position.

The best way to deal with it...make more money. Yeah, that’s dumb, I get it. I also make more money. Way more money. I use my debit card like a mofo. Problems simply just go away if you have more income...master of the obvious picture insert here.

I know that this is very old and I apologize for dragging it up from the depths of FR. But, I was curious, did you take the FPU class and how has your financial situation changed?

I have been working the total money makover for about 17 months and I have found it to be a true blessing. I will be taking FPU this September.

I was out of town and just found your note.

It has been a large help. I think your FPU class will be a great motivator.

Good luck! I facilitate Financial Peace at my church. Let me know if you have any questions either before or during class.
