I read about some British scholar who got in trouble for calling Islam a "religion for psychopaths."
At first I thought that was rather strong. However, the more I see around me, the more I think he's right. Something about that society either breeds or attracts these hotheaded, deviant types, who, if they're not bothering women, are blowing each other up. Violence & abuse are so ingrained in their culture, that I have to speculate if they're not only misguided but evil.
My father, shortly before he died last year, wondered how women could possibly want to convert to Islam. "They must be into S&M," he said. I think he was right.
In the ME (both the Arab and Israeli parts) the word is the ultimate insult to any woman. It is almost biblical in the scale of venom attached to it. To call a woman a whore there is to deny her any worth at all, to strip her of any societal protection and to open her to any level of disgrace or humiliation that you choose.
I don't understand those on the left who claim to be feminist do not support the women of Muslim countries as they seek freedom. Right wing, conservative, republican women are greater supporter of women's rights than many feminists.

It's not that there is nobody who will stand up and do something about such filth...it's that there's nobody who will do something about those who would punish their neighbors for taking action.
You can't expect a good person to sacrifice everything they have for the good of society when they KNOW society WILL render that sacrifice meaningless.
