Bipartisan congressional negotiators squelch independent counsel's findings
Though it has had scant attention from the mainstream media, a bipartisan effort to squelch an independent counsel's final report on Clinton-era abuse of the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department has gotten the attention of Web activists and commentators, causing a growing call for the release of the document that is said to including damning evidence against the 42nd president and his administration.
Over 10 years ago, independent counsel David Barrett was charged with investigating former Clinton Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros in relation to his lying to the FBI about tax fraud he committed trying to cover up payments to a mistress. Though Cisneros pleaded guilty in 1999, Barrett, in the course of his probe, found evidence of wrongdoing within the IRS and Justice Department in relation to the Cisneros fraud.
Reportedly, Clinton team members tried to interfere with Barrett's investigation, which has cost $21 million, including conducting surveillance of his office.
An IRS whistleblower told Barrett, a Republican, of a cover-up surrounding the Cisneros matter.
Writes columnist Robert Novak: "The informant said a regional IRS official had formulated a new rule enabling him to transfer an investigation of Cisneros to Washington to be buried by the Justice Department. Barrett's investigators found Lee Radek, head of Justice's public integrity office, determined to protect President Bill Clinton."
Columnist Emmett Tyrrell, who has called for the release of the entire Barrett report, writes:

bumping for breaking
I usually check Drudge out everyday and I honestly don't think he's been unfair to the GOP on a consistant basis. Quite the contrary, I've noticed Drudge's unfairness only on a handful of occasions.
This could be very significant. There has to be at least one democRAT with presidential ambitions who would love to expose Hillary for what she really is. The question is, is there anyone who thinks they could expose her and not become a victim of Arkancide?
Did you ever see a report that the FBI files were returned. Even if they made copies they could have gone thorugh the charade of returning the originals. Anyone?
"Mark my words, nothing will come from the Barrett report. The willing accomplices in the MSM and the other side of the aisle will once again trump the truth........"
The MSM sat on the Monica Lewinsky story for at least a year, then Matt Drudge got hold of it, published it and the rest is history. I vote leak, leak, leak!!!!!!
Mark
Slick Willy doesn't want this to come out before he is appointed Sec. Gen of the U.N.
Publish the Fricken Report ASAP!
Mark
I have no idea if the FBI files were returned or not.
Don't we have any Pubbie Leakers??
We need to see our 21 millions worth.
Come on Karl Rove!! Let the Dims have it both barrels!
My sentiments exactly. Two of the biggest wusses in the senate are from my home state, specifically Frist and Alexander. Lott wasn't any better. Furthermore, the GOP needs to start supporting the CONSERVATIVE primary challengers a few times and a lot of this RINO crap would stop.
It's a sinking feeling to walk in to the ballot box and vote GOP just because they aren't Democrats, and here lately it's been really hard to tell the difference, especially on spending and government intrusion into private matters, ie the Schiavo case, steroids in baseball, etc. I'm waiting any day for them to call up NASCAR crew chiefs about cheating and mandate drug testing in that sport. It'll be really hard to continue with that sport using a grand total of five drivers and about twenty crew members.
I may just lay in a stock of single malt Scotch, some straight sour mash whiskey and a few bags of Doritos and stay home in 06. I might stay sober and go dove shooting.
If the GOP would just send all these National Guard helicopters looking for weed to the southern border, we wouldn't need a fence down there. That's just one issue, but typical of my problems with the current "Rockefeller Republican" direction of the party. We need another Reagan or Goldwater.
I don't care about the condition of their collective conscience, but it's getting hard to even FIND a conservative in the GOP, and they are far harder to come by in government employees.
Come on now folks. The dems have gone so far afield, the tent may be a little TOO big.
I know of one conservative who works in the USDA soil conservation program, and he doesn't have access to the Barrett report.
Previous to the last month or so, I thought a Barrett report was the sound made when you busted a cap on a .50 BMG round.
I wonder what an FOI would do? Who would sue for it?
Bump
Actually I agree with you more than you know. Both parties have sold this country up the river for their own selfish interests. The liberals are outright socialists, and the repubs are sold out to business interests that need slave labor to break the union called the American middle class. Witness the border folks. You need look no further for an impeachable offense.
