Dead Headlines

I was just listening to a radio talk show promo and the background was a clip from a story which, when it broke, was "HORRIFIC"!
It was the 'laser aimed at the pilot' story. That story, while considered "HORRIFIC" at the time was only in the limelight for a day or so.
How many headline news stories only lasted a day. Can you FReepers add others?

The laser story got little play, yet there were several different incidents.
Also, the missile at LAX a few weeks ago finally got some localized mention and a few blogs collected all available information--which wasn't much.
A couple of years ago a Cesna (IIRC) disappeared from a small airport Georgia or Alabama. Several weeks later, it still went missing.
An empty tanker truck was heisted (NJ, IIRC) and was last seen in Pennsylvania.
Several different incidents of large quantities (100s of pounds or bags) of bagged fertilizer has been stolen.
Varying quantities of explosives get stolen, usually from construction sites.
Sometimes follow-up reports published; many times, the incidents are forgotten, pushed to the background by other news.
Remember all the prominent medical and scientific persons associated directly or indirectly with chemical, biological, medical and nuclear science who were killed under mysterious circumstances, who supposedly committed suicide, or who just died of strangely 'natural' causes a couple of years ago? The last compiled listing I saw had some 60-70 names throughout the world.

Any finding of chemical weapons in Iraq.
Also there have been several "tragedy TV" missing person stories that dropped off the radar if not found to be murder. I remember one in the Southeast that was a brother and sister who disappeared and were later found drowned in a pond or swamp. Rather than educating the public about "watch your kids around water" the press just ended the story.

"Franco still dead". We aren't getting many updates on this important, ongoing story.

My Aug 28 Austin American Real Estatesman front page was 'Bush urges evacuation ahead of Katrina' and begs Blanco to let him help inside the story.

There was a horrid advertisement for some movie by Quinton Taranto, about hostages yesterday evening.
It showed a what appeared to be a nude man tied up in a chair. All sorts of drills and implements shown, and that was only a 20 second ad at most.
