Spy Agency Mined Vast Data Trove, Officials Report: NYT [Treason Alert]
NYT ^ | By ERIC LICHTBLAU and JAMES RISEN

Posted on 12/23/2005 8:05:47 PM PST by MindBender26

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 - The National Security Agency has traced and analyzed large volumes of telephone and Internet communications flowing into and out of the United States as part of the eavesdropping program that President Bush approved after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to hunt for evidence of terrorist activity, according to current and former government officials.

The volume of information harvested from telecommunication data and voice networks, without court-approved warrants, is much larger than the White House has acknowledged, the officials said. It was collected by tapping directly into some of the American telecommunication system's main arteries, they said.

" They are publishing information about classified programs and THAT is very illegal and punishable by fines, jail time or both."

If it's illegal, then why isn't aren't these traitors being arrested? I'm just damn sick and tired of these scum getting away with this time and time again.

The NYT claims to have a source for this classified information. Throw them in jail until they cough up some names.

You are correct. It's not illegal.

The damn New York Times lets more secrets out of the bag!

Surly releasing details of the NSA program is the release of more SECRETs - why is there no stopping this? Where is the DOJ/FBI? Why aren't folk at the NYT being marched out to jail awaiting their duly appointed ACLU lawyers?

We hear from time to time the phrase "Background Noise" this noise consists of instances of certain phrases and terms captured by intercepts of transmissions from and to all sources. When level of this noise goes up there is a greater likelihood some terrorist event happening.

It goes without saying that without this capability we are crippled. This discussion is most unhelpful.

"The current and former government officials who discussed the program were granted anonymity because it remains classified."

Time to haul in the reporters who worked on this and "mine" them until they cough up the names of the traitors.

Well if the classified program has been released public then its not illegal of course; but if it is still classified and not released, then I think it is considered a crime.

Let me be more specific. The publishing of classified information by recognised media is not illegal. Giving classified materiel to the meida most certainly is illegal.

Well gee aren't the DUmmies going after the big bad Karl Rove for leaking classified information? Here's a lefty site for you.

CREW calls for investigation of VP Cheney for leaking classified information

Washington, DC, January 28, 2004 — Earlier today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a non-profit legal watchdog group, sent a letter to President Bush asking that he call upon the White House Counsel to investigate Vice President Cheney's confirmation of leaked classified information in an interview with the Rocky Mountain News on January 9, 2004.

Federal law prohibits leaking classified information. Confirming information that has already been leaked is also prohibited. In his Jan.9th interview, Mr. Cheney referred his interviewer to a story that appeared in The Weekly Standard's November 24, 2003 issue. The story, written by Stephen F. Hayes, discussed a 16 page memo written by Defense Department Under Secretary for Policy regarding raw data and reports describing possible links between Al Queda and Iraq.

why aren't these bastards in handcuffs already

Because the handcuffs would come from exercising the War Power of the United States, and Congress has not acted to permit that.

There is much, much more to a state of war than the President and SECDEF moving troops around and having them kill people and break things.

This is an example of clear, unambiguous language which would permit (DID, in fact, permit) full press censorship:

"the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States."

If they didn't do this stuff they should rot in dank prison.

That's why we have the toys to do this you NYT dummies. They are protecting our nation and us citizens from attack.
The NYT was probably happy that we didn't share the info that those new fangled radars picked up at Pearl Harbor the morning of December 7th, 1941.
It would have violated the Japenese pilot's right to privacy to fly over international waters.

THANK YOU for linking to the Printer Friendly version of the article.

Those of us trapped in 56K dialup HELL really appreciate it!

This seems to be a rehash of known facts. Mysterious "government officials" who are traitors, etc.

I sincerely hope that Mr. Gonzales & Company are preparing to descend on these folks like a ton of bricks.

You obviously have never held a US Security Clearance. I am sure you can find the citiation somewhere in this document - I don't have the time to look for you NISPOM

I hear you. When I was working at local stations, we always worked deals with cops and others. If we had something that was detrimental to an ongoing investigation, we would hold it until it was clear, then the cops would take us along and we would get an exclusive of the arrest, etc.

Then the cops would feed some extra good stuff in following weeks in return.

This NYT stuff is BS!!!!!!
