Public swayed by Bush speeches
The Washington Times ^ | 22 December 2005 | Ralph Z. Hallow

President Bush's stiff-arm to Democrats' demands for a military withdrawal from Iraq and his insistence on fighting the war on terror his way are bringing little joy to his critics.

A poll of 1,003 adults shows an 18 percentage point surge in the number of Americans who think the Republican president is making progress in democratizing Iraq.

After his five speeches rejecting calls for pulling out U.S. forces from Iraq, and in some cases defending his domestic intelligence practices, Mr. Bush's job standing in the polls -- boosted by the successful elections held in Iraq last week -- also has either improved, held steady or at the very least stopped declining.

"Christmas came early for the president, whose approval ratings on key issues connected to his presidency witnessed a double-digit increase since early November," said Republican campaign pollster Kellyanne Conway. "The turning point appears to have been threefold: the increasing visibility and humility demonstrated by the president, the continuing inability of the Democrats to map out a positive set of policy alternatives ... and the images of Iraqis lined up at the polls."

Good news, certainly. But: A poll of 1,003 adults shows very little.

The American public has been swayed by a combination of President Bush's recent speeches, a successful Iraqi election, and many prominent Democrats all but admitting they're siding with those who want/plan to destroy us.

Ronald Reagan always understood the basic fact that he had to bypass the media to talk to the people. President Bush seems to have learned that lesson quite well now after his worst year yet in terms of contrived "scandals" and grossly mis-reported "information". 2005 was even worse than 2004 in terms of the media's treatment of him, and that was an election year!!

Ironically, the President's low approval ratings were due to a large number of Americans who were mad at him for not fighting back against the Democrats.

The low poll numbers did not, apparently, represent any shift in actual opinion about the President's policies.

You knew the good news was coming. I sure did when I saw the headline in USA Today on Tuesday, it said "Public Not Swayed By Bush's Speeches"

That's about what all polls are based upon...nothing new there, because almost all of these polls use sampling groups that represent, supposedly, most everyone else of their similar types and situations.

You can analyze all polls like this and unless it's an actual voting process, the polls make these conclusions based upon a sampling group of 1,250, or 1,500 or thereabouts, especially selected to represent outward in the population.

A poll of 1,003 adults

Makes a difference when you factor that the surge in that poll is 18 points.

When you show you have some balls about something important, people respect you.

Why can't elected Republicans ever keep up this attitude?

We need to wait until the Iraqi election results are announced and received by the Iraqi population before we start celebrating, I think.

I think the pres' greatest asset is his sincere demeanor. Don't understand why he doesn't spend more time speaking directly to the public. He'd cream the MSM and the libs.

Bush Tricks Public with Propaganda

Well, to be blunt, it is propaganda, in the dictionary sense: "3 : ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect."

The beauty of it is, Bush's propaganda has the added charm of being true.
