Some blacks take Freeman to task over CBS interview

By c Sun Reporter

December 21, 2005

Sylvia Cyrus-Albritton isn't going to hold it against actor Morgan Freeman for slamming the need for Black History Month. She isn't mad that the Oscar winner said on CBS' 60 Minutes that it's "ridiculous" to relegate one month to black history and that the practice should be abolished.

But as director of the group founded by the father of Black History Month, Carter G. Woodson, Cyrus-Albritton says she has an important message for Freeman: "We're not there yet, Morgan."

It was a response echoed by many civil rights leaders and historians across the country yesterday after Freeman's statements, broadcast Sunday, sparked a heated debate over whether, as he suggested, the only way to eliminate racism is to just stop talking about it.

"Mr. Freeman was giving an opinion that does not jibe with the best information we have," civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson says. "Unless blacks are given due credit for what they do, we need to continue teaching black history, for both esteem purposes and edification. ... I have a lot of respect for him as an actor, but [the] actor makes a statement, an observation. He is not a historian. He is projecting an idealism. We should leave this debate to historians."

"It's a damn shame that irony is lost on the modern liberal."

Not to mention the irony of a lib like Jackson trying to put an actor in his place regarding the spouting of his views.

I don't suppose Jesse made any similar requests of Sean Penn at Tookey's funeral.

In Jackson's world "they" will never "be there". Because the very instant that happens ol' Jesse will have to get a real job and stop living off of the sweat of others.

The point Morgan Freeman was making was that every month should be black history month, in the sense that black history should be woven into the fabric of American history. Black history should be studied just as the rest of American history should be studied. Not as victim history, not as the history of oppression, but as an interesting and valuable contribution to America. Mr. Freeman sees clearly.

"... He is not a historian...."

Hey je$$e, neither are you.

"...We should leave this debate to historians...."

Exactamundo! Leave that to the professional historians. You, je$$e, are a rank ameture. Sit down and STFU!

Of course. The racialists like these social parasites and the Jessie Jecksons, "Reverend" Sharpeton, etc. will NEVER be there.

They'll never be there because if they ever are, it means the end of the gravey train of special benefits, contributions, fame (=notoriety), and filthy lucre they and their corrupt organizations reap as result of the collective guilt of naive and stupid white people.

Having a "Black History" month makes as much sense as an "Italian History Month" or an "Irish History Month" or a "Muslim History Month (shudder)".

This is America. We're all Americans. And the sooner we stop categorizing ourselves into separate governmentally inspired ethnic categories, the better off we will all be.

And I think that was Morgan Freeman's intent - and he's right.

As for these social parasites - take a long walk off a short pier, and carry your hatred, hypocracy, greed, and bags of imposed guilt with you.

The segment was great. Mike asked Morgan "Why are you against Black History Month?" Morgan said "Do you want a White History Month?" Mike said "I'm Jewish." Morgan said "Do you want a Jewish History Month?" Mike said "Well, of course not." Morgan said "Neither do I."

Is being Jewish a race? Its a serious question because even though I am of Yugoslav descent, convert to Jewish, do I cease to be white?

Maybe it's a sign of progress that even some "African American's" are getting tired of the continual whining of self-appointed "victims".

Everybody (black and white) as a general principle should just shut up and get over everything. I know it's a good principle in my own personal life. Blaming anyone for your problems solves NOTHING.

Can't we all just move on?

I do not see him as a black actor. I see him as an actor (who happens to be black) and I assume that is how he wants us to see him.

Great actor he is. Unlike Jesse who wants to be know as a black pastor as opposed to a pastor who happens to be black.

Is being Jewish a race?

Mike Wallace evidently believes it is.

I would venture to say that Morgan Freeman knows how far we have come over the past 50-60 years in race relations. Probably as much or more than Jesse Jackson. Mr Freeman was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, the home of the worst racism in the 19th & and first 3/4 of 20th century. He by the nature of his trade lived and worked for many years in Hollywood, the home of the probably the worst racism in the last half of the 20th centuury and the first years of the 21st.
Mr Freeman now chooses to live in Clarksdale, Mississippi at a time in his life that he can live anywhere on this earth. Yeah, I think he does know from where he speaks.

In fighting? A more fitting description is taht this is more like the usual immediate gathering of a bounty hunting party so that they can track down and re-capture the runaway slave and return Morgan Freeman back to the plantation.

Does that include the study of Kwanza's origins every month too? \sarc

Morgan doesn't want to live on their plantation.

Personally I don't feel the need to atone for a single darn thing that happened over 150 years ago.

Atonement means a big rip off of Americans in the form of reparations.

NAACP, Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton scream about black injustice but the facts show that a majority of their followers are poor and ignorant, just they want to keep them.

I am sure that these race baiter's understand that successful blacks don't necessarily need their sham-ful services.

And the subliminal message in Mike Wallace's response is that Jews don't need their own history month and blacks do. More patronizing racism from the left.

We will Move On whether the left wants to or not. They want the past to be the now. They want everything to be 1955 and civil rights are nonexistent for black Americans. They want to go back to the Jim Crow Days so as to re-inforce their power base. The only trouble is The Rest of Us is/are living in the here and now................
