Some blacks take Freeman to task over CBS interview

By c Sun Reporter

December 21, 2005

Sylvia Cyrus-Albritton isn't going to hold it against actor Morgan Freeman for slamming the need for Black History Month. She isn't mad that the Oscar winner said on CBS' 60 Minutes that it's "ridiculous" to relegate one month to black history and that the practice should be abolished.

But as director of the group founded by the father of Black History Month, Carter G. Woodson, Cyrus-Albritton says she has an important message for Freeman: "We're not there yet, Morgan."

It was a response echoed by many civil rights leaders and historians across the country yesterday after Freeman's statements, broadcast Sunday, sparked a heated debate over whether, as he suggested, the only way to eliminate racism is to just stop talking about it.

"Mr. Freeman was giving an opinion that does not jibe with the best information we have," civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson says. "Unless blacks are given due credit for what they do, we need to continue teaching black history, for both esteem purposes and edification. ... I have a lot of respect for him as an actor, but [the] actor makes a statement, an observation. He is not a historian. He is projecting an idealism. We should leave this debate to historians."

"We should leave this debate to historians."

Well, Jesse, since you are a historian, why are you debating this.

It's a damn shame that irony is lost on the modern liberal.

They're not there because they won't allow themselves to attain that which they claim to seek. Even the militant radicals of the 60s understood the trap of the victim mentality, something lost on the current activists who would rather repress a whole class of people for their own gain and satisfaction. That's why they are all Dims - the hell with those they purport to represent, they want theirs no matter the cost to everyone else.

The segment was great. Mike asked Morgan "Why are you against Black History Month?" Morgan said "Do you want a White History Month?" Mike said "I'm Jewish." Morgan said "Do you want a Jewish History Month?" Mike said "Well, of course not." Morgan said "Neither do I."

I just love in-fighting! Jesse can't stand it when those on his "plantation" don't toe the line!

Mr. Freeman and the rest of us must always remember that the past oppression of blacks must never be forgotten or forgiven. There is nothing we or anyone can ever do to atone for this. The only solution to the problem of race is to constantly remind all and sundry how wronged they were (if they are black) and how bigoted and ignorant they are (if they are not black). There are too many jobs, too much power and too much money at stake to allow anything else.

All the "history" taught during "Black History Month" is at worst racist, at best wrenched from any useful context and generally fraudulent.

How about making every year "American History Year"?

I must have missed something since I started my education a long time ago.

Single-note, single-purpose activists now call themselves "historians"? I will assume that is intended to persuade the ignorant that there is greater credibility involved?

Morgan Freeman is my hero. Up until this attack on him exploded, I'd forgotten he is Black. I wonder why?

And the "(most) reverend...(way more reverend than you or I)...Jesse Jackson is a historian? I guess the racist left finally found an actor whose comments do no warrant attention?

I keep hoping Ann Coulter will write a book about the history of the Democrats in regard to their views on race. You can go back 150 years and see everything the Dems have said, and everything they have done, and it's all - ALL - based on the idea that blacks are less good than whites.

From what I see, the Republicans want people to be seen as people, with no weight given to the color of anyone's skin. But the Democrats see everything in terms of color and have one opinion about how to treat blacks and a different opinion about how to treat whites.

Why blacks vote for a racist party with 150 years of race-baiting history is beyond me.

""We're not there yet, Morgan."

Because there is no there. What passes for modern day civil rights is black identity politics and race mongering. It's not about gaining equality it's about institutionalizing racial advantage, manipulating discontent and exacerbating perceived slights..

One has to look no further than New Orleans to see how the race game is played today.

IMHO America could use a whole lot more individuals with the courage and integrity of Morgan Freeman.

No more perfect quote exists to describe people like the, uh, Rev'run Thacksuuuunnnnnn (/Rush) than this:

"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the negro race before the public. Some of these people do not want the negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well."

Gotta love it. As long as the 'Celebrities' are mouthing the Lib Party line every syllable is precious wisdom. Let one stray off the reservation and their words are their own opinions, not to be in any way confused with the 'Truth'. The hypocrisy is amusing to say the least.
