Officials Fret Over Disappearance Of Explosives 150 Pounds Of Explosives Missing From Sandia-Affiliated Company
POSTED: 2:10 pm MST December 19, 2005 UPDATED: 2:17 pm MST December 19, 2005
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Officials discovered hundreds of pounds of explosives stolen in Albuquerque on Sunday.
One hundred fifty pounds of c4, 250 pound deta sheet, and 2,000 blasting caps were taken from a Sandia Labs employee's company.
Officials are very concerned about these thefts.
The items were stolen from a facility in Southwest Albuquerque.
Burglars apparently cut through steel bars to get at the goods.
C4 is a plastic explosive.
A deta sheet is another explosive that looks like a rubbery sheet of orange or green paper.
What makes deta sheets especially dangerous is that they can be hidden in books or letters. It cannot be spotted by a metal detector but are used by engineers for detonation.
Blasting caps are devices used to set off explosives.
If you know anything about the disappearance, please call police.

Yes, you don't store caps and explosives close together for obvious reasons !
Do they still use mercury fulminate in the detonators? I knew a farmer in Kansas that lit off one just because it was the 4th of July. He had a license to clear land during certain hours of the day. Nice ear-shattering noise.
Still no mention of the deta on the half pass news update. Maybe that's better actually.
One or two pounds would do the job. A bit more if you are setting it off from under the bus, rather than inside, and assuming your object is to kill the passengers, not shred the engine and transmission.
Consider that a Claymore mine only weighs about 3.5 pounds and much of that weight is the "ball bearings" (about 700 of them) and the plastic case.
"It's probably and inside job to get rid of journalists."
It's probably what and inside job?
Or did you mean "probably AN inside job"?
Sorry - your reply made no sense.
'Welcome. Listen to your gut, msf. Mine has saved me many times. And yes, I'm as worried as you are. This is NOT good. Whoever did this CUT through the barrier to get this stuff. I would rule out high school pranksters....
half a brick will boil a water can for a rice paddy water shower.
It seems like they knew exactly what they were looking for and that is very bad
How about college pranksters?
Just playing a prank with that vial from the lab right?
< /Sarcasm >
Goodness, please forgive the "little d". Next time I promise to use spell check.
It was out at the Explosives application labs I believe.....inside job IMHO. Look for a security type to get snagged soon .....
Ergo I go with my Ego...........:o)
Man I can feel the love on this thread .........LOL !
LOL! You HAD to bring that memory up! And it's Christmas Time, too. At least the leaches floated to the top.
Best wishes For a Merry Christmas to you and Yours, Rahbert.
Thanks for "weighing in"....Mt. Squantos.....LOL!
You think they would be that stupid? It's for sure an inside job, I just wonder what the final destination is I can't see some mall ninja thinking hey this would be cool to have, I can see some muzzies paying mall ninja to fetch their goods
No problem.
That said, I don't think this was anything to 'get rid of journalist'. You don't need that many explosives, for starters. Just throw a picture of Slick Willy Clintax or Babs Streisand off a NY City pier in the middle of winter and they'll all follow.
It's scary that such an organization even exists with the Navy or DoD.
Check #112. Squantos is familiar with both the area and line of work.
Um, one would think. And as I am one man that is what I think. ELF? Man, they torched Vail, imagine what they could do with C4 and caps?!?!?!?!?!
