Hold the line
The New York Sun ^ | December 19, 2005 | Editorial

Feature the new line of political attack the left is launching against the White House. It is criticizing the Bush administration for authorizing the government to listen in on telephone and email conversations between America and places such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. And the Democratic Party, in the latest evidence of the bubble-like separation from reality in which the party lives, is working itself into a lather from which it is going to take weeks to recover, if it can recover at all.

This issue of Bush allowing Domestic spying has already been shot down since congress was aware, a Federal Judge OK'd it, and Clinton did the same thing,...It's a two day story, already dissolving.

The New York Sun gets it.

The left in this country is at war....but not with our enemies. The left wants to destroy President Bush. What makes it worse, weak kneed wussies on the right, RINO, and cowards are aligning themselves with the liberals, because they think President Bush is weakened and vulnerable. They are thinking more of their own political hides than the fate of our nation.

Loyalty? Non-existent.

President Bush started taking the gloves off in his Saturday speech. He better burn the damn things and take this fight to the people. We haven't been attacked since 9-ll, and we know United States senators deserve no credit for keeping us safe. Now it looks as if they are willing to put us in further peril in order to score political points.

The U.S. Senate has joined forces with our enemies, simple as that.

After a short night, here I am back mining the data on FR. This article will be far gone by 7:00 am I fear, so I bring it to your attention. It is a good read on wartime surveillance; even a primer.

The idea that this is shocking is an idea that has stranded the Democrats in the wilderness...The majority of Americans, we're confident, are grateful to Mr. Bush for setting the listening in motion and hope it succeeds in preventing another attack like the one on September 11, 2001. If this listening were not happening, it'd be a scandal. You don't even need a wiretap to predict that the same partisan Democrats who are now denouncing the president for supposedly infringing on civil liberties would be denouncing him for failing to take the steps necessary to protect us.

Amen and Amen!

I've said all along, this is a losing situation for the Dems if they choose to harp on this.

Excellent post, YaYa. Let's keep it BUMPED, for it's a sure that dems will be yakking ad nauseum about Bush "illegal" action. These FACTS should be repeated over and over to demolish their attacks.

Great points!

It boggles this little mind that the Congress acts as if this is all something new and profound.

While I understand GWB is a lame duck, that the Democrat Party is the enemy of these United States and that the RHINO's are in bed with that enemy, to see Congress postulate and lie so repeatedly and shamelessly, about anything and everything related to this administration, should give any rational American pause to think ... think of storming the strongholds these perverted elected officials reside in, take them to the nearest tree and hang them for sedition ... or at the least, for insulting morons everywhere. ;)

How could the NYT - in its alleged "reporting" and its subsequent editorials - go through this entire issue without once mentioning 50 USC 1802?

That's a rhetorical question. They are lying, per ususal.

Good catch. Thanks.

Ain't it odd that after 3 or 4 days of this nonsense, this is the first mention of 50 USC 1802 by the press (well, from the Sun I would have expected it).

"The U.S. Senate has joined forces with our enemies, simple as that."

I agree. I'm disgusted with them all. Is there a way to dismis the whole 100 and hoild special elections in search of loyal politicians, or is there such a thing?

AG Gonzales on TODAY and FOX & Friends this morning did an excellent job of laying out the facts. Then viewers get treated to wannabee president Russ Feingold repeat his, "he's not King George" sound bite.

Feingold is the one who's jumped the shark. If Republicans Spector and Graham weren't out there making fools of themselves, Feingold's over the top allegations would have no credibility at all.

This morning on TODAY, Tim Russert said the president's speech last night was designed to buy him time. Russert should have said the NYTimes attack on the president in concert with his political enemies is the real attempt at buying time.

Bush's political enemies know this allegation of breaking the law is bogus. They just want to milk it for as long as possible in order to affect the 2006 elections. They must use this [ and anything else ] to prevent Bush's rise in the polls from accelerating because of Iraq's successful election.
