Sure we will. But it is morally wrong to use pain to cause someone to tell you something and we have signed (and initiated) all kinds of treaties to that effect. We signed those treaties after we had fought Nazis. Al Quaida is not worse than Nazi Germany.

Sure they are, Nazi Germany was an entity , or sovereign nation with men in uniform.

Al Queda is neither.

They are terrorists, using the threats of torture and cutting off of heads to further their aim of domination over the world. This has been the case of the fanatical Muslim for the last 1500 years or so.

If torture is needed to SAVE and PRESERVE American lives in Iraq and elsewhere in the world, we do it, and we do it in a way that the terroists understand.

To stop terrorism, you must become what your enemy fears. He fears not getting into Paradise. We had a policy at the turn of the last century to use any means necessary to subdue the Moros in the Phillipines. What was used? The threat of being buried in pigskins and the use of bullets dipped in pig fat.

It worked then and it will work now.

This really irks me, bad. The terrorists know that they can pretty much do whatever they want with no consequences.

Wow! I had to double check the headline and was surprised to find that this was written in Canada! At least some of our friends "Up North" get it! I just wish our Senator's would have the same epiphany! Mr. McCain has been a big disappointment in the last few years. He's done enough damage to our electoral process, now he's working on our National Security!

He needs to get off the stage!

If we define "torture" as anything that causes the slightest discomfort to the terrorists, I can only imagine that we will wind up losing information that we would otherwise get.

And al-Qaeda doesn't even have to pay for the lawyers for their terrorists. The American taxpayers get to do that, too, because each terrorist captured will damn well demand an attorney.

"
What in the hell does that have to do with "degrading interrogation methods"? "

I didn't say anything about the definition of degradation. I agree that should be re-defined.

But I also agree that intentionally degrading a human being is morally wrong, I just don't agree with the current liberal definition of degradation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe torture worked on McCain....

Per some reports by other prisoners, that is McCain's dirty little secret.

No... The worldwide "press" is anti-American in general, consequently painting America as the evil-doer regardless of our actual actions.

Get real... terrorists blow people up around the globe, hijack airliners, behead people, and "we're" the terrorists?

Never confuse worldwide press sentiment with "worldwide opinion"...

Bush should stop giving into this man. Who is advising him on appeasement of this emotionally disturbed Senator? Karl Rove?

McCain is nuts, no question about that. If W's flipflop is an example of Rove's genius, I'd let him go.

Do you have any concept of what WAR is all about?

Please enlighten us as to what aspects of war you might consider "moral".

I'm imagining you sitting there offering a captive tea and crumpetts, asking 'so, what're you guys up to?'.

"Sure they are, Nazi Germany was an entity , or sovereign nation with men in uniform.

World War 2 was on a such an enormous scale and the number of deaths and enslaved were on such a gigantic scale and the suffering endured by the American people were so large that I don't see how one can reasonably start to compare them.

Can you go to the store and buy butter? When you can't do that then you can start to compare the effects of Al Quaida to the effects of WW2. just in the initial attack at pearl Harbor we lost as many people as in the World Trade Center or the war in Iraq. Then, we lost another 400,000.

"Never confuse worldwide press sentiment with "worldwide opinion"..."

That is a valid point. But I am convinced the damage from this issue goes beyond press opinion.

LOL! Old Karl is too busy CYA. The dogs are nipping at his heels.

Mr. Bush has really disappointed me on this one. A veto should have been in order. Makes me wonder, what McCain has over the Presidents head? IMHO- McCain has gone loopy and needs to retire.

Defending one's self from an attack that threatens our lives and our country is moral.

Once the attacker has surrendered then torturing them is not moral.

In the coming years we will have to fight here or accept any dictate. There will be as many factions here as there are in Iraq. One third of America will side with the enemy.

We will have less luck if they think we are evil and the world thinks torture is evil.

No we won't because no matter what we do someone, somewhere, will call it evil.

Some idiots will always protest Gitmo because that is what they do. Some idiot will always pass a resolution in some pissant town (Berkeley) because that is what they do. Some band of ragbags (Answer) will protest our actions to bring democracy to a country and liberate 25 million people, because that is what they do.

And there will always be a MSM to write, to frame the antics of the above idiots in such a light to make us look as bad as possible, because that is what they do.

We could give each person in the world a million dollars and some idiot somewhere would complain because the money is green.

Because that is what they do.
