WASHINGTON (AP) The White House has agreed to accept Sen. John McCain's proposal to ban cruel treatment of terrorism detainees, congressional officials said.
Yahoo E-Mail Alert. Looking for whole story.
There is a cancer on the Republican party and its name is John McCain.
It seems to happen everytime, Howlin. Things are going our way, and OUR people let the air out of the balloon.
Why did the WH do this?
The legal term of torture means to cause bodily organ failure and is already illegal. As well, I've never seen ANYTHING to suggest we engage in that type of torture.
The "new" definitions seem to include things like humiliation and uncomfortable positions like standing for a long time.
I'm stunned.
Nahhhhh....
I think the Yahoo Title is a bit misleading. The agreement is coming but not quite yet unless Yahoo got an exclusive that it is a done deal.
I will not support, financially or otherwise, any member os the Senate who is found in the YEA column:

I'd like to know what the definition of torture is, in this context.
House backs ban on interrogation torture
WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has joined the Senate in strongly endorsing a ban on interrogation torture proposed by Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain.By a 308 to 122 vote, House members adopted a non-binding resolution that would prohibit "cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment" of anyone in the custody of the U.S. government.
The vote specifically instructed House negotiators to include McCain's exact language in the fiscal 2006 defense appropriations bill, the Washington Post reported.
Earlier this year, the Senate voted 90 to 9 vote in support of McCain's legislation.
Wednesday's House vote was a challenge to President Bush, who has been aggressively pushing to create exceptions for CIA operatives and to water down McCain's language to keep it from limiting interrogators' options.
However, Bush has vowed to strike down any bill that would limit his authority to wage war on terrorism.
This doesn't have to be a bad thing. As much as we'd like to see these beasts tortured thoroughly, I think it's worthwhile to show the world that the US still expects its soldiers to maintain their humanity.
It also says that we believe our way is the best way, and we don't have to stoop to ugly methods to maintain our freedoms.
Finally, for the serious people working for us in the field, these new standards won't prevent them from doing their jobs. Those guys usually don't work with an audience, anyway. It's really not a bad thing that the US goes on record saying that we don't accept torture as a policy.
He's still doing the 'stupid-pills'...
Not nice.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Then what in the name of Hades is there to discuss?!?
AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
I've only heard it discussed on television and it sounded to me like it included stuff that isn't legally torture. I know it included not humiliating them.
But yes, we need to see what exactly is included in the bill.
the nyslimes will be very happy with mccain
I should have added, since the legal definition of torture is to cause body organ failure, and it's already illegal, then why we needed another bill is a mystery.
I'll take it with a grain of salt until I hear names... To many sources close to the administration officials with no names.
At least one of my senators got it right.
