A new Gallup survey released today finds that four decades after the "God Is Dead" controversy was first noted, Americans retain a strong belief in a higher power. Some 94% think God exists.
Only 5% feel God "does not exist" -- and even most of them "are not sure" of that. Exactly 1% are certain there is no God.
But how strongly do the believers believe? Nearly 8 in 10, in fact, say they are "convinced" God exists, although Gallup does not ask them why that is.
Conservatives are more likely to be convinced than liberals (87% vs. 61%), women a little more likely than men (82% vs. 73%), and residents of the South more than those in the East (88% vs. 70%).
Surprisingly, some 61% of those who seldom or never attend church are nevertheless convinced that God exists.
So how come Christmas is banned?
This just shows that 94% of all Americans are out of the mainstream.
Good NEWS bump!
Of course the question is, which God?
Take that M Nedow, ACLU, and 9th Circus! Now all of you three Merry Nit-Wits, go-away!
But, the God they do not believe in is different for each nonbeliever.
61% of those who seldom or never attend church are nevertheless convinced that God exists
Could be that 61% of those who do not believe in God nevertheless attend church.
And government and big business will bend over backwards to cater to this minority.
"This just shows that 94% of all Americans are out of the mainstream."
This just shows that 94% of all Americans are wimps for not standing up to the PC mafia.
So I guess Paul was right.
Romans 1:20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualitieshis eternal power and divine naturehave been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Merry CHRISTmas Everybody!
No it doesn't. It shows how powerful reality is. No matter how intensely those 96% try to pretend something is other than what it appears to be, it still doesn't appear to be anything other than what it is.
Frankly, those figures shock me.
Based on what you hear from the 5%'ers you would think this is becoming an increasingly godless country. Granted, this represents a wide variety of belief systems, but a belief in God is a start.
So they say ... but their actions and words in a different forum say otherwise.
"This just shows that 94% of all Americans are out of the mainstream."
Priceless!
Sharp comment.
"Of course the question is, which God?"
Well ... you would have to spoil it, now don't you? ;)
Let's see ... money, sex, self ... that's for starters.
I'm not buying this.
Only 1% are agnostics?
And atheists outnumber agnostics by 5 to 1? -Tom
Say it, but act like it too.
