An interesting exercise in the hidden power of Christmas last week ...
A Catholic priest was giving the invocation before the lighting of the town Christmas tree and he dropped the "J bomb."
That's right, the priest had the audacity to mention cover your ears, kiddies Jesus Christ.
That caused an immediate ruckus.
A city councilman took over the microphone and insisted the tree lighting was not a Christmas tree but a holiday tree and there was to be no religion in the observance of the lighting of the holiday tree.
Within hours the councilman ate his words with a knife and fork.
After the event with the kindly, old priest mumbling apologies for bringing up Jesus whatever would make him think he could do that? the councilman consulted legal experts and determined that the courts in the United States have never banned either Christmas trees, which are actually named Christmas trees, nor has the mention of the name Jesus Christ been banned.
I'm not naming the councilman here because he reconsidered his outburst, realized he made a mistake and immediately righted the wrong.
The funny thing about the war on Christmas is no matter how often someone makes this mistake, there is always someone else willing to make the same mistake again the next year.

Jesus Christ, what was the man thinking?

Pretty good definition of socialism if you ask me. |
Peter denied Christ 3 times, so there is a precedent. But this priest should be ashamed. Deeply ashamed.
Holy Son of God, not a J-bomb! The fiend!
I bet the councilman never even considered the 1st Amendment in his tyrade.
We can call the tree anything we want. Just don't try to tell me what I can't call a Christmas Tree.
"giving the invocation" -- hellllllllooooooooooo, invocation...
A humourous take on this:

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I don't believe it. :^)
Jesus Christ, still offending all the right people after 2,005 years.
Jesus Tapdancing Christ what was he thinking.
Try saying that to Him in person.
More like, since time began............In the beginning there was The Word..........
Well a few cracks are opening up in the walls of wacko liberal secular humanism. The lunacy of the anti-Christmas hysteria and agitation is starting to show.
I'm wondering how the councilman realized his mistake. I'm guessing his wife and the prospect of the couch during the Christmas season. Gibson could have given a little more info on this.
The priest never apologized for mentioning Christ. It was journalistic hyperbole to make the story sound better.
This was in the news several days ago (Dec 9th). According to the accounts of the original report the priest was shocked by the response by the Town of North Hempstead Supervisor and refused to deny the name Christmas or the spiritual nature of the season and the ceremony. Public outrage caused the supervisor to apologize both publically and privately to the priest.
