NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A government program that put Hurricane Katrina evacuees in hotels while they sought other housing must be extended a month beyond the deadline set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a federal judge ruled Monday.
Judge Stanwood Duval extended the program until Feb. 7.
The temporary restraining order came from a class action lawsuit filed in November by advocates for hurricane victims. Attorneys pressing the lawsuit said FEMA has failed to provide aid to many who qualify and that information on the aid has been slow.......

I should explain myself.
It happened here in NC when we had a hurricane. The feds set up trailer cities and the people liked them so much they refused to move out. I think it took something like two years before the last people were moved out and the last city closed.
Same thing going on in south Florida.
I'd like to know what authority a judge has that allows him to make rules for FEMA. Isn't that for Congress and FEMA to decide?
Who appointed this judge, do you know?

The "law" is what a judge says, not what is written. Any judge can stick his hand in your pocket and take what he wants. But, don't you dare criticize the judge - that's not good for our "judicial" system.
Thanks to the controlling Republican Party, right next to the clause that says Big Stupid Government can steal your property if it can extort more taxes from somebody else.
I figured if it was the unions that brought this case forward to this judge he must have been appointed by him, thanks.
Abolish all fed agencies. Other than regulating interstate commerce, protecting the borders, and settle ing disputes between states where in the Constitution does it say we have to pay for any hurricane relief anywhere, guarantee housing, guarantee jobs, etc...

----You could give them until Feb. 7, 2040 and they still won't have jobs or have done anything. The ones that are trying to pick up the pieces of their lives have already found jobs/homes and are taking care of their families. The rest don't plan on doing anything beyond complaining and screaming racism daily.

What I haven't seen in any of the reports on this is what RIGHT were the plaintiffs basing their suit on, and similarly, what RIGHT did the judge rely upon in granting his order?
I imagine that when Congress sets up a welfare system like, say, Medicaid, people do have enforceable rights.
But did Congress ever establish such rights vis a vis FEMA aid to Katrina victims? Or was this a 'right' purely created by the judge because he didn't think ending the housing subsidies would be 'fair'?
I did note that the judge initially said something about people being worried about not having housing for 'Christmas.'
So liberals are finally willing to recognize Christmas - when they can use it to justify an expansion of the welfare state!
