Jeanine Pirro is expected to quit her bid to unseat Sen. Hillary Clinton as early as tomorrow, prematurely ending what had been billed as one of the nation's marquee races. Just a few months ago, the smart, aggressive and charming Westchester district attorney was the darling of a Republican Party convinced she was the right candidate who - even if she couldn't beat Clinton - could at least slice into her high approval ratings.
But now, Pirro, 54, is being written off as the first political roadkill of the 2006 election season. And Clinton never even had to throw a punch.
What happened?
"She's been hurt by a lack of money and a campaign that from the beginning has been sputtering at best," said Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff.
Pirro, he said, also fell into the trap of making a central issue of her campaign that Clinton harbors presidential ambitions and won't finish a second term, a claim that, even if true, doesn't seem to matter much to most New Yorkers.
GOP insiders said they expect her to toss in the towel tomorrow when Republican leaders meet in Albany to gear up for next year's elections, which also feature races for governor, state attorney general, Congress and all 212 state lawmakers.
Officially, her campaign says Pirro has no plans to quit, but sources said she will be "drafted" to run for attorney general, a job for which many of her backers say she is well qualified given her background as a prosecutor and former judge.

and Schundler just rocked in NJ when he had a shot.
I don't know the positions of Tom Keane Jr - who they are grooming to take on Menendez. His dad was classified as a RINO, is the son a RINO too? so when that senate race comes up, are we going to go through this again, with the NJ conservatives posting that they are "staying home"?
Unlike you, I almost always get "it" correct, dear. :-)
I wasn't aware that Bill Buckley was a candidate for Governor or Senator as a Republican. His brother, however, was an unapologetic Conservative Party candidate for Senator and, lo and behold, managed to win. Imagine that, in liberal New York.
socialist-like -> socialist-lite
Yup. Don Carcieri. But, see, this is not supposed to happen according to the RINOistas on this thread... Only LIBERAL RINOs can win in 'Rat states... another falsehood.
You haven't a clue; leave the assuming game to others.
Proof ? Evidence ?
"too bad Pataki cannot be convinced to run. he could make a race out of it, perhaps winning it."
Are we talking about George ( Mr. Charisma ) Pataki?
He would be a terrible candidate.
She did not want to go after Hillary where the witch was vulnerable.
And why did he lose ?

Yes. Why should Conservatives support another liberal RINO that mocks and trashes their values ?
1) Pirro's deal with the NY RINO Party hit a negotiating "snag" on whatever goodies she was to receive
2) Hillary's goon-squad had a li'l talk with Pirro over a spaghetti marinara dinner
3) Hillary's goon-squad had a li'l talk with the dons of NY's RINO goon-squad over a spaghetti and clam sauce dinner
Too bad. I don't think Pirro had much of a chance but she could at least make Hillary campaign. Now she's free to use the war chest to help others nationwide like Cantwell.
so he won 3 times as governor on flukes? each and every time?
What color is the sky in your world, Chester ? You've not made any coherent arguments to support your views. Screaming "BS" at people that have a basic grasp of political dynamics does not make you right.
Baaaaaaaaawwwwwwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I've actually worked in N.Y. city and state wide and presidential GOP campaigns. I'm a born and bred New Yorker. My family worked in campaigns their and I grew up knowing people on the inside. Yes, I know EXACTLY how it works; not to mention history past and present.
If the attack dogs hadn't come out the minute she announced, Pirro would have beaten Hillary to a bloody pulp!
WHAT YOU KNOW AND UNDERSTAND ABOUT N.Y, POLITICS, WOULD FIT ON THE HEAD OF A PIN, WITH ENOUGH ROOM LEFT OVER, TO PRINT THE CONSTITUTION, THE BOR, AND LINCOLN'S GETTYSBURG ADDRESS; MARY !
Yeah, yeah, yeah, if ONLY we ran the RINO candidate with the criminal husband who's trailing Hillary by 30 points, she would have magically "BEAT HILLARY" cuz ummm... you say so.
You know what? Why don't we just give you guys what you want and run a couple of your "electable" RINO heros in races no one cares about next year. Let's run RINO Rosario Marin or Dick Riordan for U.S. Senator from CA next year. Let's run RINO Jane Swift for U.S. Senator from Mass. next year. How about RINO Olympia Snowe for Governor of Maine? (her twin Susan Collins came in THIRD place when the GOP nominated her for Governor, BTW). Run RINO Mark Kirk for any statewide office in Illinois, like Comptroller. Run RINO Gary Menduzo for any statewide office in California. Run the RINO Governor of Hawaii for the state's Senate or Congressional seat. Run one of the abortion-luvin' RINOs in N.H. for New Hampshire Governor. I'd suggest running RINO Connie Morella for U.S. Senate in Maryland but no way is Stelle going to step aside in the primary for an socialist loser. How about RINO Chris Shays against Lieberman in Conn.? Or any of their other RINO Congressmen for statewide office? And even RINO Linc Chaffee can get the hell out of the Senate race and run for Lt. Governor of Rhode Island. That's an open seat, surely the little weasel and his ultra-high disapproval rating will "win" the seat, right?
All of those above mentioned liberals have been touted as "electable" by the RINO apologists here. So let's run them all in a few races, and see how they fare. Put up or shut up. I'd bet real money that they'd ALL lose.
Schundler lost because he didn't get enough votes, NJ is another state where this mythical "hidden vote" simply does not exist.
the only way to win in these states is to hold the conservative base, and have a candidate that attracts moderates. in these states, either conservatives can be a part of winning coalition, or they can stay-at-home and let the Dems win, then b*tch for 4 years about how bad things are.
I was never your friend; ergo, that quote is not only silly, it's pathetically misused.
Pataki can't even "win" re-election for the job he already has. If anyone should be drafted, it's Rudy. At least the RINO fan club here would be honest then when they reported some RINO can "beat Hillary"
Wrong yet again. Abject stupidity never is "truth" and the only nerve Frank struck, is in your body.
