More Diversity Sought Among Mall Santas

DURHAM, N.C. -- At shopping malls across the region, Santa Clauses are greeting lines of children and listening to their Christmas wishes.
But some parents don't like the homogeneity of the men behind the white beard and red suit, and one group of mothers is bringing diversity to the North Pole.
"We would like to see Santas of all ethnicities that represent all children," said Tammy Cruell, of Mocha Moms, a group of African-American stay-at-home mothers.
Mocha Moms plans a Dec. 10 party at the Hayti Heritage Center, in Durham, that will feature the only African-American Santa in the region this year.
One of two Santas working at Crabtree Valley Mall is bilingual, but the Santas at other Triangle malls are white, speak only English and dont know sign language, officials with the various malls said.
Afraid of meeting up with a Santa just like that, Tina Ndoh has avoided taking her two children to see Santa for years.
"It wasn't high on our priority list because I knew they wouldn't see a Santa that looks like them," Ndoh said.

I was wondering the same thing, why all the white Santas?
Next we can ask why all the black Malcom Xs and Martin Luther Kings in those civil rights movies? Why all those real indians in those "Cowboy and Indian" westerns? Why do all those short people get to play the elves? How come all those lawyerrs get to make money off court cases they represent? Why do they get to represent people in the first place?
Look, Tammy, Santa is a representation of "Saint Nicholas" who was, shockingly, white.
Her parents probably never told her "Because that's just the way it is."

It's only reasonable: There should at least be a Hindu Santa, a Muslim Santa, a Buddist Santa, a Jainist Santa. . .otherwise, some poor li'l kiddie could feel OPPRESSED.. .or some other REALLY BAD feeling.

She's got a point.
I for one, am sick and tired of a fat asian Buddha. I think that we should have a skinny white one too.

The usual idiots in the press behind this stuff. Why don't they report what some of us think they should do with their diversity religion.

Get your favorite
Bible characters in black or white.
I'm waiting for Martian Jesus. Black and white just isn't diverse enough.

Santa is white because black people are too smart to move to the North Pole.

Wow! Did they have Santa in Africa? Of course, I am assuming that these moms teach all about Afro-American history to their little ones at home.

Maybe I was a crappy father, but I never taught my daughter to believe in Santa except in the historical/traditional sense. She turned out OK, and I felt it was better not to lie to my kid. Seems like the Santa controversy would go away if kids stopped believing in him.
