Today, Senator Daniel Inouye, the Ranking Member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his service in World War II, released the following statement:
"As a Veteran of World War II, I know what its like to fight a war and put your life on the line every day. I also know what it takes to win a war, and I know that politics and an attack machine like the Presidents plays no part in it.
"The Republican Partys latest ad is a shameful and disgusting attempt to distract the American people from the problems in Iraq. It may improve the Presidents political fortunes, but the American people and our troops will pay the price. I hope that President Bush realizes how shameful it is to play politics when what we really need is leadership, and that he will direct his Party to take down this ad immediately."

Ah it must be leaving a mark for them to drag out this old guy.
I hold the "Greatest Generation" of WW2 in the highest respect for what they did then. What they do nowadays is a different ballgame and they needn't bother throwing the veteran experience at me.

"What's the problem?"
It makes Democrats look bad. That is a big no, no to "moderates" in both parties. It's (In a whiny voice) "divisive". (Note, only conservatives have the power to be divisive)

I wonder if a poll was done first, regarding how many know the significance of a white flag. If it's low, people won't "get it"

This is the excrement that is the Democrat Party.
Only a coward would use their medals as an excuse to be bulletproof from criticism.
A medal does not allow you to say or sit back while members of your party say disgusting, demoralizing, borderline treasonous things about our President, our military and their war effort.
Only a coward would use their medals as a license to undermine another generation of soldiers.

Didn't this guy receive his MOH from that other war hero Clinton?
Actually, he probably deserved it long ago, but the Democrats are largely guilty of exactly what the ad is suggesting. So shut up.

This from a POS who supports Hawaiian separatists with unconstitutional, pork-laden legislation (thereby supporting MEChA and any other ethnic separatists). Thanks for your unselfish, good work Inouye.

Oh, like we should listen to an opposition Senator whine about it.

I hope they keep this ad on for 6 months *chuckle*

Inouye has dishonored his Medal of Honor. He is using it to play "gotcha" with the President and give further encouragement to the terrorists. He should be called on it immediately.

Perhaps the white flags and the soldier watching and listening? The Democrats are living a lie and the truth is way too much to bear, not for them of course, but for the masses who have a shot at seeing and hearing this.

It's now an attack machine to broadcast the Democrats own words? That's the beauty of the ad.
The republican response is simply. "Please point out where we misquoted the words the Democrats spoke"

You must be too young to remember the Watergate hearings. He was a member of the Senate panel.
He's a Democratic senator from Hawaii. He fought in World War II as part of a Japanese-American unit. IIRC, his family was in an internment camp during the war. He lost an arm in battle.
I always thought he was an honorable man - maybe his advanced age is catching up with him.
