"Globalization failing to create new, quality jobs or reduce poverty" It was never intended to do any of those things, its all about consolidation of power and getting rid of the pesky middle class that stands in the way of tyranny

What, pray tell, is the alternative? Isolationism? Protectionism? A return to mercantilism?

They're just figuring this out?
Globalization isn't going to do a damn for poor people until the underlying structures in these poor countries is revamped.
They lack the rule of law, consistently applied, that upholds property rights and protects economic investments. Poor nations are poor because of the rampant corruption in their governments, and foreign aid to corrupt governments only prolongs their regimes.
In effect, corrupt governments hold their people hostage. Either we feed their people and give their government money, or the people die.

Amazing that only in America has economic growth translated into personal wealth growth in the last century now with free trade that is all being shot to hell too. Greed corrupts and absolute greed corrupts absolutely.

This story is based on a release by the
International Labour Organization. This is a UN organization with socialism as its mission statement. Of course they're opposed to free trade.

Actually, globalization should help a lot by permitting money to flee the worst dictatorships and tyrannies.
At last there is a natural economic force to encourage less oppressive government.

I am not sure the parasites are against free trade so much, as long as they are allowed to steal and redistribute the wealth. We must remember that these folks believe that since they were born and utilize the same oxygen that we do, they are entitled to our earnings, sort of like the constituents of the Rat party.

The leeches aren't that smart; remember, even though it isn't necessarily in a parasite's best interests to kill its host, sometimes they get caught up in the moment and suck out too much anyway.

:-) I think they are the jumping leeches. When they kill one host, they just jump to another one.

Here is one of my favorite articles from The Economist that explains why so many third world countries are in the condition they are in. I always have this handy to rub in the face of any socialist who goes off on a rant about how 'People are poor because we live so well....'

Amazing that only in America has economic growth translated into personal wealth growth in the last century...
What about Eastern Europe?
...now with free trade that is all being shot to hell too.
Our economy has grown, and society as a whole has benefitted greatly from free trade. There are issues with outsourcing, but bear in mind that many comanies will outsource to avoid rediculous liberal taxation, lawsuits, and regulation, in addition to cheaper labor elsewhere.
The Economist article I sent you in #13 is a very good read.

An excellent article. We have to look out for the same "problem solving" methods employed by our government here at home.
How often do we hear from our government that the best solution to our government-caused problems is more government? Surprisingly, we hear it a lot, though the problem is rarely identified as being caused by the government's policies.

its all about consolidation of power and getting rid of the pesky middle class that stands in the way of tyranny No. It's about freedom.
A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.
~ Milton Friedman
You should spend a little time reviewing The Heritage Foundation's Index of Economic Freedom. It clearly proves that countries with the most economic freedom also have higher rates of long-term economic growth and are more prosperous than are those with less economic freedom. There is a direct correlation between economic freedom (the ability to trade freely) and per-capita GDP.
Tyranny thrives in societies where the citizen's freedoms are restricted. Willing buyers and sellers coming together to conduct business is one of the most basic freedoms. The fact that some people believe government should restrict this freedom (to protect freedom), so that government can't consolidate power, is comical.

I always have that one handy! "Basic Economics" by Thomas Sowell, is also excellent. I'm reading it now.
It is funny how 'govt solutions to govt problems' still find a way to sell to the masses.
My analogy: Liberal/socialist economic policies are like a VD: Easy to contract, and sometimes they may even seem attractive. But they cause more damage than good and are next to impossible to get rid of!
I find that one is a good crowd pleaser (among the right crowd), people laugh and that alone usually shuts the lefties up! ;-)
