Dog Urinates on Katie Couric Ice Sculpture
Posted by Scott Whitlock on December 9, 2005 - 16:11.
Friday morning, NBC Today show reporter Natalie Morales was covering the snow fall in Central Park. Upon completing her report, at 7:54AM EST, the camera pulled back to reveal two ice sculptures of co-hosts Matt Lauer and Katie Couric. (Ice portraits might be a more appropriate term -- the ice was carved with images of Lauer and Couric from approximately the waist up.)
Lauer remarked, "No harm intended to the fine artists, but they look a little like our tombstones."
A short time later, the camera showed a small dog suspiciously trotting around the two blocks of ice. With mock horror, Lauer yelled, "Oh, no you dont!" Returning at 8:00AM, after a local break, Morales revealed: "The dogs have really taken a liking to the ice sculptures. And Katie, they seem to have a particular liking for your ice sculpture, if you know what I mean. A yellow snow issue."
Couric understood what had been done to her image: "I know, I know."

Thanks for the ping...One of the dogs of my youth, C'llide, was a terrier mix named in part after the orangutan in the Eastwood flicks as well as his bizarre habit of administering body-checks to strangers and using their reaction as the sole criterion for whether or not he should bite them. He would charge strangers walking onto the property at full speed and strike them in calf to knee area with the totality of his mass. If the stranger got angry, yelled at him, etc. they were going to get some teeth. If the stranger bent to pet him, started playing with him or laughed about his bizarre behavior, they would be OK.
I bring C'llide up in this discussion as he was also a dedicated iconoclast. If being walked through a parking lot, he would generally piss on the the cleanest, most expensive looking cars, and dump in the best manicured yards.
I always think of him this time of year as C'llide is buried in the woods behind my cousin's house back in Pennsylvania, and even though I've spent the majority of Christmases as an adult far away from home I've always arranged to have a single milk bone taken to his grave on Christmas Day.
C'llide would have been proud to piss on Couric.

Reminds me off the time I took Bobo the Angel Dog to the retirement home to visit the old folks. He was a middle age Jack Russel who was completely house trained. The old folks loved him but before we left he lifted his leg and peeded on the furniture.

What are the odds some NBC stooge put the dog up to it over Katie's rumored move to CBS?

Maybe a Labrador thing? A few months ago my family took our cream lab, Moses, to an SCA event (middle ages reenactment). Moses kept breaking from his tie down. That morning very few people were awake when Moses ran off again. The first thing he did was run to the dog at the next tent and pee on her nose.
