WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2005 Enemies of a free Iraq recognize they can't win against the United States and the coalition on the battlefield, and the only way they can hope to win is in Washington, D.C., and through American public opinion, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Dec. 8. "They can't win over there," Rumsfeld said on PBS' "News Hour With Jim Lehrer." "The only place they can win it is in Washington, D.C., and they know that. They are working on it, and they are working it skillfully."
In addition, the secretary said, "they lie" and use the media to circulate their misinformation. He cited false stories circulated by terrorists, including one about a Koran being flushed down a toilet at the detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Several people died in riots that followed in Afghanistan, reportedly killing 16 and injuring more than 100 people.
Rumsfeld reiterated a point he made earlier this week: that journalists need to be more even-handed in their reporting and ensure they tell the whole story of what's happening in Iraq.
In the rush to get news out quickly, some reporters cut their fact-checking time short, he said. "To find the truth out takes weeks," he said. "To spread something that's not true takes five minutes. And it's all over the globe."
Rumsfeld urged reporters to tell the complete story about Iraq - the progress as well as the violence that tends to dominate the headlines.
He questioned why people "see hundreds of stories on the negative side and handfuls of stories on the positive side about what is going on."
Troops on the ground know the real story, and share it with their friends and loved ones through e-mails and phone calls, the secretary said. But they continue to wonder why this story isn't finding its way into the media, he said.
"All I know is that there are 150,000 troops over there who keep asking me, what in the world is going on?" Rumsfeld said. "Why is the impression in the United States so notably different than the facts on the ground that they see every day?"
Treasonous Media and Surrender Rats are a dual threat
Oh man. They let Rummy out of his cage to say what he thinks. Bush must be really serious about nailing this thing down.
I had a dream. All the Treasonous Media and Surrender Rats suddenly sauntered slowly into the sea. Almost immediately, all around the world terrororists surrendered or vanished and, before long the mideast became a burgeoning economy and business thrived throughout. Gas prices plunged all over the world, Hollywood turned in their hybrids, and there was peace and prosperity on earth.
Scott McClellan needs to take notes from Rummy.
Poor little liberals. It's isn't 1967 anymore.
NAME NAMES NEXT TIME (i.e. Kerry, Dean, Durbin)!!
Good start, but this is armed forces press service. I wonder how many of those lying newspapers will carry it?
Don't forget McCain, who wants to pass a Terrorist Protection Act to make sure the murderers are not abused by the U.S.. 89 Senators voted with McCain for this idiocy in October. The Senators apparently think the "United Terrorist States" will reciprocate and treat prisoners with decency. Or maybe they'll use friendlier bombs when blowing up 30-40 civilians, or blowing up our troops with IED's, reducing human beings to bloody body parts? McCain and the other Senators have lost their sanity.
That's why we have FR.
Unfortunately we cannot depend upon the American Forces Network (TV and Radio) to be unbiased either. Read this unrelated post that touches on this same issue.

When California based civilians determine what our troops see (and don't see), it's an invitation for abuse.
How can we?
This issue, CFR -- McInsane has done more damage to the country AND GOP than the Democrats ever could alone.
Can somebody please reel in this nut before his does even more damage?
I believe McCain also has a lot to do with the archaic, obsolete and anti-capitalist regulation of telecom. The entire telecom industry in the U.S. is held hostage to oppressive regulations, and taxes. Even a simple home phone bill has so many surcharges and "access fees" that the effective tax rate can be over 30%. Perhaps someone on here knows more about McCain's role.

The RNC video ad addresses this superbly!

"Retreat and Defeat are NOT an option"
We can't let the left lose the war on terror, here at home, the only place we can lose it.
bttt!
Thanks for the ping!
OH WOW MAN! Really? Like what year is it? Is Timothy Leary President yet?
With apologies to Mr. McClellan....he wouldn't know what to do if he took notes on Rummy. McClellan is probably a fine talented person...but...he's in the wrong job!
Bush needs a Press Secretary that is a close relative of Rumsfeld and thinks like him!
The press can be had...Rumsfeld proves it every day!
