It looks like the pendulum is starting to pick up velocity. Bush picked the right man for chief justice!

The media and college liberals will scream like stuck pigs over this. I hope they're so ticked-off that they can't even see straight.
I think a school should be able to ban military recruiting. I think if they choose to duck their civic duty they shouldn't be eligable for any federal money whatsoever.

I think the president picked the right man too. But I don't expect that we will agree with all of his decisions.

Liberals are the greediest people I've ever met. Once the SC decides on the part of the Military, these Universities will give up their "principles" and go for the money.

I heard a quote from Roberts on the radio.
Its simplicity was perfect:
"If you dont like it, you dont have to take the money"
To: An Old Man
Roberts statement reminded me of Calvin Coolidge when he was being urged to forgive the loans made to Great Britain during WWI:
"Well they hired the money didn't they?"
To: An Old Man
My preferred solution: cut off the money; recruit only at patriotic schools.

despite its policy of excluding openly gay people from its ranks The military also excludes people who are overweight, too tall, too short, too thin, have disabilities, have criminal records, have low IQs, etc.
Oddly enough, it seems like they're more interested in upholding US Policy and protecting the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic, than they are in being an employment service. I'm sure that would have changed if John Kerry would have been elected.

Are they going to try to ban religions next? After all the churches have anti-gay policies too. I'd like to see them try it.
Let the ignorant speak. That way we know where they are.

Right now it's the law. I fail to see how the lower court gave permission to the law schools to ban military recruiters in the first place.
The USSC has no choice but to uphold the law passed by Congress.

Actually, the right of colleges and universities to bar military recruiters has never been questioned. The case is over whether those institutions are entitled to federal money.
The consequences of a victory by academia would be interesting. Congress has attached many strings to its entitlements. States must adhere to federal transportation and environmental policy in order to keep transportation dollars. They also must adhere to education policies to keep education dollars. If academia wins this case, then all of those other policies are in trouble.

Colleges get millions from the fed each year for research. If military cannot recruit on college campuses, maybe the research dollars can go elsewhere.

It said in the article that even Breyer, who I consider to be a real looney-left dope, said that what colleges need is MORE free speech (i.e., allowing military recruiters along with all other recruiters on campus), not less. Good point: the universities all scream about their "free speech" rights which seem to take the form of denying everyone else's free speech.

I find it unbelievable that you have colleges in this country who do not believe in defending this country to the point of not allowing military recruiters on campus. Never mind federal funds, they should allow recruiters on campus as a good community citizen. Also, it's not just federal funds, these so called "non-profit" organizations pay very little in taxes but in the towns and cities where they reside they are major property holders. I think if you are charging $40K a year to "educate" a student, you should be paying your fair share in taxes, and I don't mean "in lieu of taxes" where they pay 3 cents on the dollar and provide the local community a couple of crappy scholarships every year. If these schools don't want military recruiters on campus, maybe they should move to another country, say Saudi Arabia or some European country. These schools fighting this are bad citizens. Period.
