FBI agents believe it was a flare or a bottle rocket,

BOTTLE ROCKET OR FLARE ?? I do not think so. If he was over the Pacific he had probably already climbed a couple of thousand feet. Not even the Road Runners Acme bottle rockets will do that!

FBI agents believe it was a flare or a bottle rocket, but say they may never know if that's what it actually was, KYW Newsradio 1060 reported.

Priceless.

The average altitude achievable by a bottle rocket is about 100-200 feet.

The highest altitude flare available for private use from Orion is the SOLAS flare - 900 feet.

A commercial airliner departing LAX over the ocean would be at least 3500 feet

More lies from the government

I know there's already a thread on this subject,

And in that other thread, we already stated bottle rockets do not soar to 6000 feet, which is the altitude where the jet was. Incredible any newspaper would allow a report to have "bottle rockets" as a possibility when the altitude was 6000 feet.

James Kallstrom would say it's only a spark from a center fuel tank.

It would be nice if they could be bothered to mention the plane's altitude when this happened.

The FBI has repeatedly covered up incidents of this kind, so you more or less expect them to cover this one up too, whatever really happened. It has become knee-jerk policy. No terrorist incidents allowed. Move on. Nothing to see.

Nothing to see here. DHS has things under control. Move along.

This is not an attempted terrorist attack.
It is merely an isolated suicide attempt by a Islamic bottle rocket.

A bottle Rocket?

It is really wonderful how much the FBI has improved over the last six years under President Bush.

I feel Much Safer Now.

I think an airline pilot would know if it was a missile or not. I'll trust the pilot over what others think.

This won't be the first time the FBI covered up a potential missle strike on an airline. (TWA Flight 800)

They are probing it because it didn't hit it and bring it down. Now, if it did hit it they would be probing a center fuel tank explosion or a structural failure of the vertical stabilizer instead. With our new homeland security department and GWB at the helm there is no way we could possibly have another terrorist attack, now can we?

With all these people making explosives in their bathtubs maybe, some are trying to get into rocketry. (another feeble attempt at terrorism)

>>>FBI agents believe it was a flare or a bottle rocket...<<<

Riiiiiiight... because a bottle rocket contrail is EASILY mistaken for the smoke trail generated by something 500 times larger... like a Grail SAM.

Ditto the flare concept.
