George W. Bush has had a good week. Just how good it turns out to be depends on how good he wants it to be. He started the week on the border in the West, at last addressing the domestic subject most on the minds of everyone else. He talked semi-tough on immigration, promising, finally, to take seriously the bleeding border with Mexico. Then he lapsed into his familiar rhapsody about the amnesty that he won't call an amnesty. But his speech to the Class of '06 at the U.S. Naval Academy about what must be done in Iraq was straight, plain and delivered with the bark on, no asterisks, no dodgy footnotes, no loopholes, and none of the selective emphasis that rendered his immigration speech an unexploded shell. "We will never back down, we will never give in, and we will never accept anything less than complete victory," he told the cheering Middies of the first class to graduate since the Islamist assault of September 11. Strong stuff, and enough to send the San Francisco Democrats into full swoon with Jack Murtha, the Pennsylvania congressman who sent girly-man hearts aflutter a fortnight ago with his demand that President Bush cut and run. The first to flop onto the fainting couch with him was Rep. Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Democratic minority in the House. "I'm endorsing what Mr. Murtha is saying," Miss Pelosi said, "which is that the status quo is not working and that we need to have a plan that makes us safer, our military stronger and makes Iraq more stable. I believe that a majority of [Democrats] supports Mr. Murtha."

Mrs. Pelosi, What exactly do you think President Bush gave you in the past few days???
Eggs Benedict with orange juice???
Rep. Charles Rangel sneers that rising re-enlistment rates are fueled by mercenaries who are only in the military for the money.
I would like to be the first in line to smack Rangel in the chops for trashing honarable young men like my son with this remark.
" I believe that a majority of [Democrats] supports Mr. Murtha."
I do too, but once again they don't have the nerve to say so out loud. Lies. Always lies with these people.
It's nice to see the Dems on the defensive for once.
Where are editors these days? This statement is demonstrably false -- what the author meant to say is that this is the first class to gradute who initially enrolled after the Islamist assault of September 11.
Rather than giving sell-outs like Rangel, Kerry or Murtha some leeway due to their veteran status, this veteran expects more from them! Their outrageous behavior, lies and rhetoric are harmful to our nation and especially to those wearing our nation's uniform - via encouraging their enemies and adversely impacting morale .

You mean good ole Charlie Rangleberry? :)
Liberals everywhere continue to stab our troops squarely in the back. Fortunately, the old media has been supplanted and no longer has a monopoly on the information stream. Support our brave troops and their mission. Down with DemonRAT cowardice and treason.
These "strategists" of the Dem party thought that they would use available air time while President Bush was in Asia, to attack him. They thought that, as with Kerry, a veteran could not be challenged for his military views. They were wrong again. Pelosi is so Dumb!!!!
PS: Wes Pruden is not reporting accurately the status of the Naval Academy Class of '06. They are the first to graduate who entered the Academy after Sep 11, 2001 - when they knew that the US was in a shooting war.
Where are editors these days?
$$$$$
Sadly, Wes Pruden is probably their boss, so no one vets his column, it would seem
I thought we weren't allowed to criticize military personnel. Looking at this objectively, I think the democrats have really made a strategic blunder on this. This Iraq issue we wear out in a few weeks. If the republicans attack after the first of the year with a strong domestic agenda, the dems are going to be left flat footed - again.
I would like to also, and for the same reason.
Of course, I would additionally like to do it because Rangle is an ignorant POS and an embarrassment to the human race. A prime prerequisite for being a Democrat.
If you are looking Charlie ... this one's for you and your's!
He's wrong on illegal immigration, and has been ever since he took office in January of 01. Even after 9/11 he still sees no problem with open borders.
I have a feeling that a lot of those serving overseas now are going to remember all this and many will consider running for Congress when they get older. That would be great.
God Bless our President....God Bless our Troops.

==================================================
I'd join the line but first I'd want verification that Rangel actually said this. It sounds like a serious (and dishonest) twisting of remarks he made in 2003 about a draft.
This is not a defense of Rangel, just a question about the truth.
Ditto
God Bless our President....God Bless our Troops.
