Chicago Presbyterian Meeting with Hezbollah Decried
Anti Defamation League ^ | Dec 2, 2005 | ADL

Posted on 12/01/2005 2:12:37 PM PST by Presbyterian Reporter

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) joined today with four other leading Chicago Jewish organizations to denounce a recent meeting with the terrorist group Hezbollah attended by leaders and members of the Presbytery of Chicago of The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

ADL Regional Director Lonnie Nasatir issued the following statement on the terrorist group Hezbollah:

It is unconscionable that Presbyterian leaders would meet with Hezbollah, which our government designates as a foreign terrorist organization. Hezbollah (Party of God) has a track record of terror that is unambiguous. It pioneered the use of suicide bombing in the Middle East. It is committed to the destruction of Israel, opposition to the West and the establishment of an Iranian-style militant Islamic fundamentalist state. Prior to Sept. 11, Hezbollah had murdered more Americans than any other terrorist organization.

Chicago, IL, December 1, 2005 ...

Hezbollah's long record of terror includes:

• The 1983 suicide bombing of the US Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, which killed 241 US Marines. • A series of kidnappings in Lebanon in the 1980s, which included several Americans. • The 1985 hijacking of TWA flight 847 and the murder of a passenger, US Navy Diver Robert Stethem. • The 1992 suicide bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which killed 29 and injured more than 250. •The 1994 suicide bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, which killed 87 and wounded 300. • The 1996 suicide bombing of the Khobar Towers in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in which 19 U.S. soldiers were killed and 370 Americans and Saudis were wounded.

Hezbollah's reign of terror continues today. Just last week, Hezbollah attacked northern Israel in an attempt to capture Israelis. Hezbollah's satellite TV station, al-Manar ("The Beacon"), continues to broadcast messages of hate and violence, including raw anti-Semitic charges like the blood libel – the charge that Jews murder non-Jews to use their blood in religious ceremonies.

Hezbollah is interested in murder, not co-existence. It is an obstacle to peace that must be opposed at every opportunity. As America wages a war on terror, we cannot understand why Presbyterian leaders would meet with terrorists who have the blood of innocent people on their hands.

Perhaps they want to distinguish themselves from the evil "Christian Zionists" Hizbollah frequently rants about. That won't save them, but then they live in Chicago, not Lebanon.

The Jewish Russian Telegragh took Foxman to task earlier today with its blog:

Every time there is an unattributed terrorist attack, folks here and at LGF like to joke that it must be the Presbyterians or Jehovah's Witnesses or Hare Krishnas again. Looks like we'll have to leave the Presbyterians out of that now. Another example of humor overtaken by events, I suppose.

Good to see the ADL making sense for a change. They used to be a great organization in the past, but more recently have lost their way.

This report suggests that maybe they are finally being persuaded to look where the real danger lies, with the left and its useful idiots in the liberal churches.

I have no doubt whatsoever that it is not Christians who still believe in the Bible who are a threat to Jews in this day and age, but those who have tossed it aside in the name of "social justice," "inclusivity" and "the Holy Spirit is doing a new thing," and yet who are so morally blind they apologize for and justify suicide bombers.

Maybe the Freepers can help ADL by suggesting they check out the facilitator of these Presbyterian/Hezbollah love fests.

The most underreported participant in these regular Presbyterian visits with Hezbollah terrorists is Presbyterian Church USA Missionary, Nuhad Tomeh.

The official PCUSA website describes Tomeh’s missionary activities:
http://www.pcusa.org/missionconnections/profiles/tomehn.htm

Whenever Presbyterians have a meeting with Hezbollah, Nuhad Tomeh is the facilitator/arranger:
May 2002 visit— http://www.emeu.net/conference/2002/tour.html
June 2004 visit-- http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_ID=1&article_ID=4753&categ_id=1
October 2004 visit-- http://www.mec-churches.org/magazines/newsreport/autaumn04/NewsReport16-34-ecuNews.pdf
October 2005 visit--- http://memri.org/bin/latestnews.cgi?ID=SD103105 and http://layman.org/layman/news/2005-news/another-presbyterian-group-meets.htm

They're protesting the recent meeting of October 2005, which was reported on this board.

Those wild and crazy Presbyterians (our denomination, hehehe) have kicked over a hornet's nest with this one. Ping for your consideration.

I wonder what they'll do next--allocate some of our annual funds to the Palestinian "resistance"? Send a delegation to negotiate with the Iraq insurgency?

When did the Presbyterian Church (USA) begin this turn against sanity? It seems that every other month there is a story about some Presbytery, or the national church making a decision that is a blatant slap in the face of Christians who actually believe the Word of God.

Why have they become so blatantly anti-Israel that they openly meet with dangerous criminals and murderers?

Does the PCUSA honestly believe their recent actions will bring people into their churches?

The "Christians" have a slender grasp on world affairs and Islamic history in its treatment of Christians in their lands. Creating ties with these terrorist groups is akin to turning our backs on Christian peoples in Asia and Africa who are the victims of Moslem terrorism. How many years have Lebanese Christians been under Syrian terrorism?

Are they part of the insanely leftist National Council of Churches? I get NCC emails about rescuing social security and other leftist causes.

All the mainline churches developed pockets of craziness in the 60s, some worse than others. I'd see this as a hangover from that whole period of "social justice" and new consciousness, etc., etc. But if as you suggest a single troublemaker is taking advantage of this naivete to involve Presbyterians in matters they should never be involved with, then exposure would be a good idea.

I haven't any ties with the people in the ADL, I'm afraid, but I don't see why you couldn't call it to their attention.

I used the phrase "useful idiots" earlier. That was the technical name used by hardcore Communists for naive fellow travelers whom they could make use of by entangling them in matters they didn't really understand. They could fool them by playing on their misplaced idealism. It looks as if that's what's happening here, and of course there's plenty of support from the other liberal churches, media, and academia to tell them that they are doing good work.
