TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

"Well brain surgery is different from removing illegal aliens from a country. "

Obviously. My point was, in either case I (we) hire (elect) someone to do the job, and have every right to call 'em on their mistakes.

As for the rest of your post, I agree wholeheartedly.

Illegal immigration is a huge problem. It's one of the most important issues facing our country right now.

It needs to be addressed, but idiots like Neal Boortz who apparently can't do basic math are undermining the effort.

It's really simple. We have a huge number of illegal immigrants working in the country right now, yet our unemployment rate is still low.

If we deport all the illegal immigrants and do not repolce them with legal workers, we're going to devastate a protion of our economy and drive up inflation.

We need to strictly enforce immigration laws.

We need to secure our border as best we can.

We need to cut of entitlements to illegal aliens.

However, as that is happening, but not before it happens, we need to increase the number of immigrants legally allowed into the country.

It can be called an increase in work visas, or a guest worker program, or whatever makes people happy with the name.

In order to discourage illegal immigration during the process of getting this law passed and implemented, it needs to require that people only be allowed to apply from their home countries, or from a country they are legally in at the time, such as someone in the US on a student visa.

This also works to not reward those who broke the law and came here illegally.

Such a program should only be phased in as we se results from immigration inforcement efforts, that's going to be difficult to do well.

While politicians as a whole aren't the brightest bunch, they understand that nothing will get them put out of office faster than a bad economy, and it's very obvious that strong enforcement of immigration laws without an increase in legal immigration will harm our economy.

It's going to be very difficult to force congress to increase border security and enforce immigration laws. It won't happen unless it's also tied to a program to provide enough legal immigration to fulfill our needs (but not too many which will drive up unemployment).

...and, it is not the bottom rung on the economic spectrum that worries about the costs of services at the Marriot country club.

But seriously it's always bottom rung that ends up paying all the extra FICA costs, unemployment costs, etc, etc. despite the classism that is tossed around about country club Republicans.

RE: There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration.

Here's proof IMO.

There have been a tiny number of articles about an aspect of ILLEGAL immigration that IMO absolutely enables the identification of virtually all ILLEGAL aliens and their employers.

The individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) for example. A Clinton IRS invention, I believe, which was established in 1996 to let people get around SSN-based LEGAL employment. (Ain't that just like the Clintons?) Estimates go as high as nine million people working with ITINs.

It enables people who cannot get SSNs to work (legal or not, more Clinton stuff) and pay taxes. I've read that the IRS / SSA will not tell immigration officials who all have ITINs.

Here's a solution. It's cheap and can be done is seconds I bet. Cancel the ITINs.

But that begs the question, what happens when nine million people stop paying taxes? The same question arises when those same nine million are deported, BTW. Then what?

Wages will rise. It will take time but those jobs will be filled -- and, there will be a rational "guest worker" plan for the remaining jobs that definitely will not be amnesty.

They complain that he does not address the problem....? When you address the problem with the problem by making illegal immigrants legal, (bending the law to the illegal and not the illegal to the law) you do not solve the problem you merely lend lip-service to it. We won't be fooled again. The last "amnesty" is still fresh on our minds.

They complain he doesn't address the illegal problem

And when he does .. they complain about that also

That is a rather broad, empty response. Just because he offers a 'solution' doesn't mean we have to buy it. From what most of us see, it is nothing more previous 'plans'. It is, no matter how he shucks-and-jives it, amnesty for illegals. That is the issue. And all it will do is encourage millions more to get HERE before the rules go in to effect, so they will be covered by it. It happens every time he announces his 'plan'.

Thank you for quoting the Reagan amnesty.
Millions stayed, millions more flooded the border.
What a great idea!

Any guess as to why the borders have seen a five-fold increase of traffic during the past four years?

And yes, it's OUR country.
Wether you are born here or naturalized here (legally), you're an American, and it's your duty to protect your country from INVADERS.

American wages are being seriously depressed because illegals come here "to do the work Americans refuse to do." What your type always leaves out is the "for that price" part.

Nobody is saying NO to immigration. We're saying NO to ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

I didn't miss the part where he said he is going to continue to bring in "cheap Mexican labor for employers who don't want to pay a working wage" and let the tax-payer provide for their short-comings? Did you?

Mexicans aren't here to do the jobs that Americans won't do. They're here to do those jobs for a lot less money. Simply the bottom line.

The cost of living in the U.S. has gone too high due to union greed and managerial laziness.

"I guess you missed the part where he said he was against amnesty??"

Said he was against amnesty, and then proceeded to outline a plan that amounts to exactly that.

Consider we are talking about human beings. The left has attempted to project President Bush as an emperor, dictator, Hitler/Nazi like, liar, oil for blood, etc.....

This illegal invasion has proponents from all institutions from the political, educational, economic and very very much the religious. The left wants their power back and they will use whatever it takes, voters legal or illegal to regain first the House of Representatives.

The left keeps pointing to the "economic conservatives" as promoters of cheap labor, however, just wait till the religious institutions start chiming in about humanity and human rights.

Wonder what the vote would be in Congress with a resolution of "no more borders" north and south????

Tell her to take her problem to "Vincente". He is stuffing his face also. Don't send her up for me to take care of.

I didn't say you had to agree 100% with the President

But what I've seen and heard on the radio

It's all or nothing ... instead of trying to find a solution that we all can live with regard to the illegal problem

Oh and I do expect to be flamed big time for my posts on this

It's the same old same old and a HUGE reason why I normally avoid the immigration threads

Oh, no! Oh, no! Our President has deserted us and all that it means to be an American, and we are DOOMED! DOOMED, I say! He says things that mean two different things to the partisan members of our posse, and the posse sets to fighting among itself!

The problem was allowed to grow by increments and neglect for years, and when it comes time to weed out the garden, the productive plants cannot be distinguished from the pests and weeds. The brutal answer would be similar to how the French kicked out the Protestants (Huguenots) in 1685, by a royal proclamation backed up with an extensive persecution of the few who did not or would not comply by scramming for Holland, Ireland, Sweden and the various German-language principalities. France was "purified" but the stage was set for the French Revolution, the Napoleonic empire, and eventually retreat and surrender by France from everywhere in the world. Is this what we want for America?

The LEGAL immigrants from the south have been an asset to this country, and for this they should be respected. What is their opinion on the illegal swarm that comes boiling like locusts, day after day, across a largely undefended border? That the native-born, integrated, ENGLISH-SPEAKING Hispanics are being pushed aside for the foreign-born, culturally isolated, and functionally illiterate underclass.

The same arguments were made against the Greeks, and the Italians, and even, for many years, the Germans who came swarming to the New World. The Irish were something of an exception, because they already sort of understood the cultural traditions, and spoke a sort of English already.

But none of these groups came in the numbers that the flood from Mexico now presents in our midst. Another possibility would be to simply annex Mexico, take over their governmental functions and convert them to the American model, and develop the natural resources of Mexico so the country is self-supporting, and won't HAVE to continuously export their excess and restive population.

Consider the plight in which Mexico finds itself. So far from God, and so close to the United States.

Our legal residents are opposed to illegal immigration; the real driver are.....these companies and their officers

So "these companies'" officers are thus, then, not "legal residents?"

Not -ALL- of our legal residents are opposed to illegal immigration. Who are the people that are paying for cheap "headless chickens, landscaping and construction." They may not endorse it, but there's a lot of little old ladies and heartland families that tacitly accept the fruits of illegals.....and I venture to say they're unfortunately not a minority.

Anyway, Don't get so anti-corporation just because it's faceless and easy to hate personless persons....there's real people that you should direct your anger at.
