TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

I find it interesting that you guys never say a word about the trial lawyers,

I've seen nothing on this thread about trial lawyers, but I have seen "living wage" and corporation bashing. Oh sure. They're all just idealistic conservatives. Pshaw!

Hey, I'm just (desperately) trying to assign some sort of relevance to your post and interpret its true meaning. I generally assume people mean things when they post, and I feel obliged to understand what they meant.

Whatever, indeed.

The companies hiring illegal immigrants are small.

Tell us how to demonstrate that and then put your money where your mouth is. Those "small" companies include major construction companies, food processors, farmers, retailers, hotel chains, office block operators, and even government. Wasn't it just last week that a hundred or so were rounded up at a single Walmart site? Isn't the Marriot the company that Senator McCain went to bat for; precisely because they were hiring illegals? Give it a break, 11-15 million people is the stuff of major employers.

Actually, illegal immigrants have every reason not to assimilate. If you're living here illegally, the last thing you want is to attract attention in the "legal" community. You're going to stick to the neighborhoods where people speak your language - Spanish, Nahuatl, Maya. (You'll rely on your kids, going to the public school, to translate for you.) You're going to keep on the down-low - don't report that fire-code violation which places the house you and 43 other people are renting, and which will ignite your neighbors' homes when yours burns down. You'll buy a forged drivers' license and not take the driving test. (The rules of the road are the same in every country, right?) There are a lot of costs to America that aren't calculated into this problem.

Unfortunately, I see much evidence that assimilation is pretty low on the priority list for many illegals -

Interesting. I see the opposite. I see guys standing around, not at the unemployment house, but at the Home Depot begging to get a chance to dig a ditch, (and not demanding a "living wage"). I'm not sure that I want immigrants (illegal or else) to absorb ALL of what American slothful culture has become.

"to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

They are NOT here to fill jobs Americans will not do ... Americans CANNOT do. Not too long ago a young man or woman who wanted to enter the trades field was able to walk onto a job site, fill out an application and be accepted by a contractor to work learning all types of trades. From there the person was able to specialize. Do an apprenticeship and become a journeyman/master in his/her field. Today there is a whole segment of the young American population that are being shut out of trade jobs because they are NOT welcome on the job site ... by other workers (who are mostly Hispanic) and by job bosses. The job bosses because they can pay the hispanics $5 or less an hour, exploiting the workers and get away with it.

So, we have a whole population of American workers who are not college material that are being shut out of the job market by illegal aliens.

No, Mr. President, the jobs being taken are not those that Americans won't do but are jobs Americans are NOT allowed to have.

And obviously, those aren't the guys I'm talking about. Are you saying those are the ONLY guys - or even a MAJORITY?

He is NOT doing what I WANT! eighty percent of the American people want but IS doing what the international socialists want.

He is NOT doing what I WANT! is his constitutional duty.

He is NOT doing what I WANT! what is necessary to preserve the Union.

He is NOT doing what I WANT! is necessary to defend the American culture.

If the public doesn't care enough about illegal immigration to vote out its advocates, then it must not be that big a deal to them.

My suggestion exactly. What if Bush is "pandering" to a majority of people who either benefits from illegals or don't care....then how will all the "close the borders" people accomplish anything but getting Hitlery elected....and still have open borders?

Trial lawyers are indeed one of the reasons health care is so expensive. The biggest reason is that the cost of indigent health care is passed onto the insured. There is no free lunch. Where do you think the "illegal Mexican indigents" go for their health care Dane? I will tell you. Directly to the emergency room (the most expensive medicine there is). Guess who pays when they shrug their damn shoulders when asked? The poor bastards paying inflated premiums on their health insurance because they are paying not only their bill but the bill of that indigent cheap working illegal immigrant.

A lot of this workers program depends on the wording and what kind of teeth it has before I jump on board and agree to it

The words are meaningless until you have a secure border. There is little point in trying to fill the reservoir until you build the dam. Step one is no more illegal immigration; step two is who gets to thrown out with prejudice for entering illegally (like illegal immigrant felons current doing time); step three is to allow lawful immigration in a secure, responsible, and orderly process - for those who are willing to pledge their allegiance to our country.

Actually, illegal immigrants have every reason not to assimilate.

You're absolutely right. In fact Vicente Fox calls those in the US "heroes" and welcomes them back every year at Christmas while they take their winter break. You see, they are propping up his corrupt government with $19 billion a year stolen from the American economy. When they are done looting our economy, they now go back to Mexico and collect social security from the American government. The American government has also set up home loan programs funded by the American people, so that when they retire back in their home countries, they can purchase homes at a very low cost. Why should they assimilate?

Not near as aggravating as having them driving up and down your streets on "Cinco de Mayo" waving Mexican flags and letting their illegal presence be known.

1) Cinco de Mayo is a celebration about beating THE FRENCH! We can all agree on beating the French! What a great reason to crack a few XXs.

2) I live in Texas....former sovereign, French, Spanish, Mexican, Confederate state.....we still fly six flags here.

The only problem with your argument is that it also describes the activities of a number of LEGAL immigrants who don't assimilate - and I'm not against LEGAL immigration (although if you have ideas on encouraging THEIR assimilation, I'm all ears.)

"The companies hiring illegal immigrants are small. Large companies are too big of targets for enforcement. They are run by greedy people who hire relatively small numbers of illegal workers to exploit.

They aren't the kinds of people who make significant campaign contributions."

That is total BS

Tyson, Cargyl, IBP ,Pilgrim foods are pretty big corporations and they hire almost exclusivly illegals and are never called to task over it.
