If he thinks the public believes his "guest worker" program is not an "amnesty program", he's dumber than I have come to realize he is.

He raised the issue in 01, and shortly after 9-11-01, Senator Byrd tabled it.

Every 18 months or so he raises the issue again. And he gets hammered for it. Talk about a glutton for punishment. He does seem to be clueless.

Thank you. Yours is the first post that takes a REALISTIC look at the problem.

I think many people do not grasp the enormity of the problem and how difficult it will be to turn around in one fell swoop. It has to be done incrementally.

Kicking out millions of people who participate in our economy suddenly would put many of us out of work immediately, raise our cost of living and burst the housing bubble instantaneously.

It sounds good, but it would hurt like heck and would damage the economy for a long period of time.

Personally, I like the sound of making some of these people pay back taxes, learn English and clear various other hurdles to become citizens. Then with guest worker cards, we know who they are and—as long as it is enforced—we can send them home if the do not comply. In addition we need to start actually enforcing the laws we do have.

Part of the problem is a capitalist one. There is a high demand for something that is illegal. It is exactly the same phenomenon that creates tensions regarding the WOD. Think of it as the WOI.

We have to be really careful here or we will end up with a France like problem of an underclass, or a drug like problem of illegal trafficking.

Until I see someone come up with a better non-hysterical, completely unenforceable, realistic and plausible plan, I'm willing to look further into the Presidents. And someone needs to start with anchor babies.

More smoke and mirrors. Unless we dry up the demand for illegal aliens they will keep coming. I have already reported a few local employers who are using illegals. Let's see if the government now gets serious about cracking down on employers. I'll beleive it when I see it.

Bull hockey. It's not Wal-Mart - it's Washington that is causing the wage discrepancy.

People complain about Big Oil gouging us on gasoline, when its the government taking 50 cents off the top of every gallon, compared to Big Oils 10 cents.

Similarly people complain of Big Business gouging illegal immigrant workers for low wages, when its a socialist government (Big Government) that's creating the larger proprotion of wage difference between illegals and citizens, through payroll taxes for Income, Medicare, Social Security, Minimum Wages, Disability insurance, insurance liability, and labor protection laws.

The biggest difference in cost to an employer between an illegal and a citizen is mandated by the leftist greed, not business greed.

Exactly. And yesterday's speech added another 2 or 3 million who will try to get here before this current plan might become effective. It happens every time 'the plan' is brought up in a speech -- another few million rush in to be here if/when it takes effect.
